Piano and strings software suggestions

I am looking for a good live sounding piano/strings midi software? Any good suggestions or ideas out there?

are you talking about samples, in case which format, or a plugin based sample option where the library has its own engine?

I love Black Grand, PMI Bosendorfer 290 under giga, the Malmsjo Grand has a lot of uses, and the Black Grand sounds especially good when filtered a bit.

Strings, sonic implants still rule for me, apart from non-commercially available libraries, and layering is key.

I am new to this stuff, but i think i am thinking more plug in based, cause i want to actually play the piano and string parts in the songs i am writing. I dont want to just grab samples, and drop them in place. but write new melodies via midi? Hopefully that makes sense.

Ivory for piano hands down. There are lots of old posts on this. I've got Art Vista Virtual Grand, Acoustik Piano and many others, but Ivory is the best. EWQLSO for strings. You're looking at probably $800 for a really good sound....

For composing, Logic Express on a Mac is only $199 and comes with a bunch of sounds and loops. There's a bit of a learning curve, but you'd be dealing with a learning curve no matter what you use. For midi composition on a computer, there is really nothing that even comes close for the price.

Kurzweils ~!!! We don't have a PC/Mac in our the studios ...so we write all the melodies via midi on the 3 sequencers in our Kurzweils....
