Mix Studio?: Sacramento to Bay Area

Hey fellers...

I need to find a studio and get some rates to do a one song mix (probably a day and a half... i.e. check the mix in the am and print it). Anywhere from Sacramento to the Bay Area. It's coming out of Protools, I probably need 48 or 64 outputs. It needs to be a room with a "big boy" console (my client thinks we might need "the sound of a console"), good outboard comps and eqs, and an engineer that can help me (I'm an ITB guy, and don't have much experience driving a big console). I'll automate in PT, so console automation isn't needed. A bonus would a room with a C7 (or even better, a Disklavier C7), so I could recut the piano, as what I've got isn't stellar.

The tune is sort of a pop/rock duet... drums, piano, bass, electric guits, live strings, girl and guy vocals.

Where should I go? Who should I call? How much should I expect to fork over?

Thanks,
brian

Yeah, that's the idea.

Any more in that ballpark?

Thanks!

Paradise Studios

San Fran

Although Soundworks is the best I've seen with special rates for Bay Area artists. Beautifull SSL room and very well equiped pro tools suites. You owe it to yourself to call abd at least get a tour of the facilities. They even have a loft upstairs for staying overnight.

Yeah, Soundworks looks great. The rates are not cheap, but not outrageous either.

Paradise could work, but the site is unclear if the ProTools rig is up to snuff for this project. I've emailed them.

Yeah, I've talked to John... I should call him again and see if it could work.

Re The Hangar: I don't know how up to the task his PT rig is in terms of I/O but he has a couple of great boards - A Daking and Neve. Cool kind of funky room. I've worked there a lot.

Nice SSL G with Ultimation & E eq, nice selection of outboard, nice room for re-amping, nice guy (Ari). It's in San Rafael (415) 485-5765 - good burritos nearby.

Thanks guys... a lot of those places look cool.

We ended up booking Soundworks for this one, though if the client likes it, I might have to remix a bunch of the record, and may want to find someplace a little cheaper, though Tony as SW is giving us a good deal.

I'm keeping a list, so if you guys know of other rooms in the neighborhood, post 'em here...

thanks,
brian
