Md421 tuchel cable to xlr..

About 3 weeks ago i could still find the Xlr to 3 pin tuchel cable for my old sennheiser md421's but now that i'm looking again i can't seem to find them..

Am i going crazy, or am i just missing them? they seemed to be on thomann some time ago :S

Any other fast eu shop would be ok too.

Thanks for the help!

JB.

are you talking Kleintuchel (smaller than XLR) or Grosstuchel (larger than XLR)?
Both would be pretty expensive to buy new, if you can find them.

but since they were the absolute standard over here in the 60's and 70's, they're still around in masses. i would check on ebay.de and you will soon find what you need.
most sellers here are willing to send to the US, if you pay by PayPal.

if you need a pinout, let me know i can post a scan.
best,

tom

Have a look at Hinton...

I bought a Tuchel-XLR cable for an old (white)MD421 some time ago, and the quality is great!

Go to the ebay store,
Madooma's Vintage Microphones.

They had plenty last i checked, big and small teuchel to xlr. Got one with a white bodied 421 I bought from them. Works great.

go ebay germany, type : "Tuchel" in Musikinstrumente
and there you go: between 17 & 19 euros, "buy it now" and ready made.

Thanks alot!

I also found this:
SENNHEISER UMBAUKIT F. MD 421/441 - Dutch International Cyberstore

Would this be for building over md421n's to xlr?

Yes but be careful as you have to do the soldering and the wires are tiny and delicate.

Ah thats good news!

And allthough i would rather leave the mic intact, the umbau kit looks mighty handy for the future, because i allready know i'll be using the mic live a couple a times...

So if you 100% positive that will work ricardo i'm putting the xlr output on

I did it myself on my old MD441s. One of my 421s had the connector changed to XLR but was done by Sennheiser during service. If you don't want to go down that route (and want to keep the mic original) buy a tuchel to xlr adapter. It is probably the best bet as some with some models you loose the bass roll of switch when you change to XLR.

To be honest, if i have one with the bass roll off i'm set... that can be cool when doing vox overdubs..

How do you take the back off a md421n anyway? seems like its glued together..

It's been a while.. but if memory serves.. slide off the serial number plate at the bottom of the mic and you'll find a little screw.. remove that to loosen the XLR housing. Unsolder the XLR wires. To remove the capsule you'll need a hex driver - and there's a nut in the caulk behind the capsule housing.

Yes - and when you have done that, there are four screws to remove the windshield.
