Is this what a good mix sounds like?

Hey you guys, can you tell me if I did a good job on this mix? I have been doing this for 4 years and I'm 18. I need to know how much I've learned. Please give me your comments as they come to you! I appreciate honesty.
Without delay here is the link

This was recorded on site using a mobile Edirol UA-101 interface with stock pres and a Mojave MA-200. How does it sound compared to professional studio gigs?

I know you're looking for some sort of help. Just not sure what kind.
Even if you named 5 albums you love the sound of, you might get some links to some of the techniques you are after.
Show us what you want to achieve. Your mixes are not 'translating' well.

Also, I have a feeling that this post will get moved to a different forum.

The musicians are pretty good, but the mix is really washy and muddy. The bass is covering up everything. Keep searching around this forum, and you'll find a bunch of advice.

Well, it sounds like a mic stuck in a room recording a live show.

So it sounds exactly like how you recorded it.

I wouldn't say that it sounded as good as 'professional' mixes such as a Pink Floyd live gig or something like that. I'm not really sure what you mean by a studio gig either, are you talking about a band playing live in a studio?

Either way, although it is far from being a releasable studio recording, in terms of capturing a live performance I think that you have done quite a good job here. I actually quite like how it soounds. Of course it helps having a good, tight band playing but I think that you've done a good job of capturing their overall sound. Yes, certain parts such as the bass are a bit overwhelming but overall I think that the balance isn't at all bad. Reminds me a lot of some of the 'Ozric Tentacles' old stuff, both musically and sonically (you probably haven't heard of them if you're not from the UK and haven't been part of the old Glastonbury scene.)

So in response to your question, no this is not what a good mix sounds like. However, if your question was, 'did I capture a good performance from a band which resembles their live attributes' then I would answer yes. I wouldn't buy that as a commercial release, however if I was leaving one of their gigs and that was on sale then I probably would.
