It's VERY placement sensitive, in that the tone will change quite a bit depending on where you put it. In my opinion it works GREAT with another mic outside of the bass drum. With two mics you have a very large tonal pallete

I personally think its incredible on snare.. tons of high end without absurd leakage and HUGE amounts of low end to work with without all the bullshit in the mids that everyone winds up cutting anyways. If you want the "paramore" type snare sound, the D6 is a really good starting point. Just high pass up to 100, and then find the sweet spot between 150-220 where the balls are and boost boost boost.

Throw up a spectrum analyzer on any of the pop/metal stuff thats been coming out the past 5 years and you'll see a clear peak somewhere in that range when the snare hits. I'd rather have a mic provide me plenty of natural sounding low end, and cut what I don't need rather than add a bunch of low mids to a mic that didn't have them to begin with (hello kick bleed)

it's very scooped in the mids and in particular low mids. I would want that meat from the snare.
