Good Los Angeles Tech/Gear Repair?

Hello Slutz,

For a few years now I've been depending on a place to repair my outboard and synths, but sometimes it doesn't get done right. I don't want to mention where, cause generally they've been ok, but not outstanding.

I am looking for a person or a place who I could bring say, an F760x-rs to for a little work, and say, a Prophet 5. Basically somebody who just kicks ass, is reasonably priced, and does things in a timely professional manner. Somebody that is versed in the ways of all old gear.

Any ideas?

Not sure if he does synths but Rob Harvey of World Audio in Hollywood is good for many things ...

Top man for synths is Paul Cox. He mainly does great studio integrations and custom boxes but is a fanatic on synths. Not sure if he does it commercially but you can call him as he is always helpful. If you google 'Paul J cox engineering' you will find him. highly professional and very high quality work.

I've used Advanced Electronics on Venice Blvd for years and always had good results. Nothing ever broke again or had problems. They are authorized repair for most of the the manufacturers out there. Their turn-around was good, but when they're busy, so goes it.

I 2nd on AME. They've done a great job switching a bunch of my amps/synths from 220V to 110V (when I moved to LA). Also, for repairs they've always delivered, except for the fact that estimating the time it takes to do the job is not always their biggest asset ...
For the high end gear(comps, eq's, FX), I've never relied on them though. For that I either 'fed-upped' the goods to a product specialist, or handed it to the studio tech.

I think a friend of mine told me about that place. He had brought an ARP there and they did a good job.

I checked it out and that place is really close to me.

For comps, fx, eq's etc, I guess I'll check out the above mentioned names and see what they are all about.

Anybody else? Where is E-Cue, I know he's an LA guy.

Call Ruth @ Advanced! Great techs, expert authorized service, professional business, etc., etc, ...

Tough to recommend somebody over myself but these are the people I go to if I had a keyboard to repair in LA.

The main tech I use these days is Mitch who works at Glenwood Place (818/260-9555) and used to be at the Village. PM me if you want his cell. I've seen him work magic on everything from the hard to fix Eventide SP-2016's to multitrack tape machines, but I'm not sure about the gear you mentioned. His schedule is dependent on how busy things are at the studio, but he's usually prompt. Any of the cats at Gearworks/Larabee (818/753-0083) are tight too, especially with Gates/Collins tube gear.

For mod's, I usually use Jim Williams at Audio Upgrades (818/201-4414).

I hope all my numbers are current.
