Difference between MOTU 896HD and MOTU 896mk3 just the effects?

Being the total idiot i am, i bought a MOTU 896hd instead of a MOTU 896mk3 because everytime i typed in HD it came up as the mk3

I spent $450 so it wasnt a huge blow out of my pocket, but i THOUGHT i was going to get a MOTU 896mk3. Its coming in the mail this week.

Im guessing the only difference is the Effects processor? if thats the case i really dont care, i use effects on Logic mostly, and i hate using small interface effects (always sound a bit off to me).

Anyone know the differences? all the specs are EXACTLY the same....there just isnt on board effects i suppose.

Anyone ever compare these 2 ever?
Did i make a mistake?
(i know its MOTU is a whole bunch better in the pre area and reliability than the Fire studio i was going to buy, which is a plus)

Apparently the analogue stages and clock are better in the mk3, and the dsp effects would come in very handy for tracking with effects with no latency.

I would sell it on straight away and go for the mk3. I assume you bought it second hand and can't just return it.

yea, i just bought it for only $450...so once again, it wasnt that bad of a deal.

You really think it will make that much of a difference for my FIRST 8 input pre..?

I only own a Edirol FA-66 right now.

It'll be fine, it's just that if you're going to spend the money anyway, makes sense to get the most out of it. But for that price you're ot shooting yourself in the foot so don't worry about it!

haha i am just a pet peeve about sound quality, i hope this wasnt a mistake..

I know what sounds good, and i want that sound.

Listen to "This Providence" on myspace...

This Providence (NEW SONG) on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos

Thats the sound i am looking for, i know i can get it if i try, but is it possible with a Motu 896 hd?

i honestly do think that in terms of "your sound", you're most likely to see the difference in your mics, pres, eq, etc.

the converters in the MOTU stuff, although certainly workable, are by no means the best out there (i use an 896HD myself), and i'm sure that your sound will not change.

(correct me if i'm wrong, though!)
