How can I get eight I/O in my Lynx L22?

Hey guys!

I have a Lynx L22 soundcard, which I'm very pleased with.

However it's only a two channel card. I need more channels in, but I get the best sound quality when I run a cable from my preamp directly into the L22.

Which means that when I need to record my triton in stereo I have to plug out the preamp cable every time.

I have a Soundcraft Spirit board, but it severely degrades the audio signal.

I read in the L22 manual that it's possible to buy a cable or something that makes it possible to get eight I/O.

It's described here: http://www.lynxstudio.com/lynxlsaes.html

My local music store told me via e-mail that this forces me to buy another AD/DA converter (they suggested Behringer SRC2496. Dear Lord...It MUST be crap).

However, I'm quite happy with the converters in the L22 and would prefer NOT to be forced to buy another converter.

If this sounds strange, it's because I don't understand what this really is.

I want eight I/O in my L22 card, but HOW????

Ha ha.

Well, I guess in a way I did, but I don't know what it is...

Is it another PCI-card?

The LS-AES is a companion card that provides 8-channels of AES/EBU digital I/O to the LynxTWO or L22. Your store was correct, you would need AD/DA converters as well to connect to an analog signal source.

Is the Triton and your pre-amp the only devices you're concerned with? If so, doesn't your Triton have Digital Outputs? The L22 has Digital I/O that can operate as AES/EBU or SPDIF. Even if the Triton only has SPDIF Optical, you could use a format converter to end up with SPDIF coax or AES. This would allow you to record the Triton output digitally, and you can even monitor it through the L22 analog outputs.

If you need to connect more analog devices, in the near future you will be able to add an Aurora to the L22 for 8-channels of analog I/O, without downgrading from the sound quality you're getting through the L22 analog I/O.
