I hear good things about the Pultec EQ as being the best and I am intrested in buying the older UAD-1 cards because I cant afford the new ones. But the older ones has the Pultec EQp-1A vs. the Pultec Pro. Im wondering if there is a big difference between the two and how do they compare to the Sonalksis SV-517Mk2 EQ?

The Pro version adds the mid band EQs, which really makes it a lot more useable. Lot of times the EQP1A just isn't flexible enough, but for specific tasks it's better since it uses less DSP.

Yup... totally worth it. IMHO the Pro version makes this UAD plugin way more usable. I use mine on drum tracks, guitar, bass, and some vox even.

I love using the Pultec plug, even just on the buss it adds a nice warmth to the mix. I don't use the Pro version as often, sometimes I need the mid eq's though so it's good to have it. I haven't tried the Sonalksis though so I can't comment on that.

The only thing they share is the name.

...and that goes for most UAD-plugs I've tried.

I strongly recommend the "Digital eq fact & myth"-thread that was around a while ago.

You can always buy the Pultec Pro for your old card, and since that plug is on sale quite often, its pretty cheap if you feel the need for it.

UAD had a great deal on the Pultec Pro right now with 20% off plus a 25 dollar off coupon. Hard to resist!
