Thread Starter | what brand/model tube screamer for that early metallica/anthrax sound?
you know that super crisp 80's thrash crunch like on ride the lightning/kill em all/among the living/spreading the disease/speak english or die. what brand/model of tube screamer would i want to look at to get me in that ballpark? hotcake? maxon? 808? ts9? off the bat i am thinking ibanez ts-808 re issue would be it. |

I guess it would depend on what you use it with. If its something like a Marshall/Peavey or some high gain amp, then it will sound very nice when pushed even further with this pedal. On the other hand, if you pair it up with something else such as a Fender, then you'll get that 80's blues tone, rather than the tone you are looking for. Oasis' guitarist (Noel Gallagher) uses a TS808 driven by a Marshall for all of this guitar tones, although not with extreme amounts of gain. Take a listen to the their music (especially 'some might say' from the album 'Whats The Story Morning Glory') Not 80's, but fairly early 90's. To me, its one of the greatest overdrive pedals to exist. Very versitile and has such a distinctive tone. |
