Vac Rac Limiter Set To Stun

Does anyone else's vac rac distort really easily when both the gain and reduction are about 3/4th up?

If I'm not mistaken, the gain knob controls the output- and does not feed back into the circuit. It seems that even when I send a modest level, the unit breaks up w/ the reduction @ 75%. Is this unusual or do all of the units operate like this?

thanks for the input. actually the right channel is a bit hotter than the left (w/ the left gain on 10 I need to set the right to 8 to even them out), but both sound the same dist wise. I'm about to pull it out of the rack and trace down the level thing to see if it could be my bay or cabeling...

My TS-3 is ok, i'm often surprised how much it can take without crapping out.
Mines on a TT patchbay too.

not mine, works like a charm. Even cranked more than that.

I got the new TSL-3, not the old. Anyone compared this to the Pendulum ES-8? I am interested to know which is better for the mix bus.
