How do you use Aux Sends during tracking?

I'm curious how folks that primarily work with a DAW and typically record live music employ aux sends during tracking. What minimum quantity is necessary for you to work effectively? Do you require them to be mono sends, or stereo aux sends with panning functionality? It would also be helpful if you could tell me whether you are using a hardware mixer or a software mixer to configure your cue mix sends.

And for demographic purposes, do you consider yourself to be a hobbyist or, part-time pro, or full-time pro?

thanks,
Brad

Full time pro...

I am perfectly happy with 4 mono sends & 2 stereo (used with a langevin remote headphone stand).

I dont use Aux sends from the console... I use outputs of PTHD directly into the inputs of the langevin system. Patched out of the multitrack returns ( one of the green rows) on the SSL patchbay.

Also use a great studio which has a similar furman setup.... 4 mono sends 1 stereo... works great.

If I am mixing the headphones (on aux sends) I like have stereo ones... I then patch them into the stereo inputs of the console and can mix the headphones on the monitors.

If i am on a ICON i use the headphone output on the bottom of the D-Control and mix the headphones through a pair of headphones.

Are you typically using 6 sends for "more me" feeds and then one stereo pair to duplicate the console or control room mix?

Depends on the situation... but sometimes...

If its a full band live thing then all bets are off.

Usually though its "Control Room Mix" and then more me.

The band gets my mix as we're usually just trying to get the drums as keepers.

Drummer gets a separate stereo mix that I make him. One stereo send.

Then I give him a separate click volume that he can control.

I find the less options the more time spent on making music.

That's what I meant. I was getting at one main stereo mix + 6 more me feeds.. so 8 channels total to keep the musicians happy.

Bump for Inauguration Day. Don't feel compelled to post something. It's more important that you just do the poll.

thanks,
Brad
