Does Apogee plan to release the Duet with USB?

Hi everyone,

Since Apple has discontinued the use of Firewire in its new Macbooks, will Apogee eventually release a USB version of the Duet? Would be a shame to see such a short product life for the Duet due to Apple's change... The Duet appears to be what I want/need.

Thanks. Sorry if was already covered; I couldn't find a direct answer.

Huh, new macbooks don't have firewire? Well that throws a monkey wrench into apogee's marketing a mobile device that is mac only. I did not know this. Maybe they'll drop some asio drivers in there before it becomes completely obsolete.

The Macbook Pro still has FW800. It's just the entry level 13" Macbook's that don't have FW.

I expect FW to remain on iMacs and maybe Mac mini (we'll see on that )

The thing for Apogee will be if USB provides enuff bus power to run the device
without an AC adapter.

I do not know its power consumption.

I hope the macbook does provide enough power so it doesnt become like the Firebox. I remember pluging one of those in once and not being able to get it to even power up... just a few lights came on. I called tech support and they said Macs dont provide enough power to start the device, just run it. That would really put a damper on location recording with the duet... having to plug it in and keep it on until you got where youre going.

I certainly haven't heard of any problems with the Duet and power. In fact Apple and Apogee advertise it as the perfect device for the desktop and portable use which is why Apple dropping FW on the Macbook was so shitty. Not every needs a 15" screen for portable recording.

Im not saying the duet has problems now. Im saying I hope that doesnt become the case. I love my duet because its the most stable interface Ive ever worked with.

Wow i saw it at some shop for 250.

Would be great to get one and use it as front end converter. If the the drivers are solid and the latency is at reasonable proportions.

Since this thread was resurrected, I'll add my 2 cents:

Apple wised up and put FW back on all MacBooks. I have no idea what they were thinking with that move.

I have a duet and a 13" MB pro, and it works flawlessly with Logic, at 3ms i/o latency, 48k.
