Would you consider being interviewed for a study on recording and digital technology?

Happy New Year everyone. Hope 2009 is starting off well for you all.

My name is Bill Phillips, and in addition to being a musician and recordist (and gearslutz member), I’m a Ph.D. student in media studies at New York University. I am currently working on a doctoral dissertation, which is a study on the impact of digital recording technology on the field and practices of music production.

I’m attempting to speak to a variety of individuals who record music in various contexts to investigate the variety of ways in which digital technology is affecting the field of music production. I’m not only interested in how recordists are using digital technology, but also how they perceive it to be affecting the field in general, and their own experience of recording in particular.

I’m looking for everyone (men and women) from professionals and semi-professionals to hobbyists to get a variety of perspectives on how their recording experiences have been influenced by digital technology, and what impact they see digital recording technology having on the field in general. I’ll be looking for New Yorkers to interview face-to-face and folks in other locales to participate via phone or Skype. Interviews will be from 45 to 60 minutes in length.

Would you be willing to speak with me about your experiences and perspective on these issues? Your participation would be highly valued and greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in participating, please email me at:

bill.phillips@nyu.edu

When you contact me, if you could, please tell me something about your connection to recording (such as whether you consider yourself as professional, semi-professional, or hobbyist), and your age and gender.

Thanks so much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you, and would be happy to answer any specific questions you might have about the study and my work in general.

Bill
