Pro tools 8 Rewire issues?

Maybe i've missed something here, but Reason Rewire doesn't seem to wanna work on PT8!

I bought PT 8 this morning. Installed it and even treated myself to the massey tape-head, just to spice things up ...

First session I loaded had a couple of 'reason' tracks in it. The new interface looks wicked, but whenever Reason tried to load up a disclaimer said "Engine not responding - Please check your ReWire host", closing Reason. I tried it a couple of times but had no luck.

Has anyone else had this issue yet? I expected PT8 would be ReWire compatible out of the box...

man i had a few plugs disappear but luckily not rewire. i did have that happen with 7 a few times though. try to reinstall PT, thats the only thing that worked for me before. also, if you are using a novation remote SL controller make sure digi rewire is not in your plugin manager list!!

for me rewire is working, but something is wrong. the loop points are messing up

for instance, lets say i just lay a kick onto redrum, 2 bars....when the loop point comes around the first kick messes up, it almost sounds like there is "Flam" selected on that first kick, but there is not!! its like it's slow to loop or something...like an old ass synth midi'd up when they get slow.

That is bizarre. I guess it's lagging a bit on ya, although people have been saying that PT8 has so far seemed to be similar to 7 on the CPU department...

I'm gonna try a couple of other sessions and see how they work out. If not i'll certainly consider re-installing it.

Anyone else been dealing with this issue?

k, I figured it out.

For anyone that runs into this problem with PT8, make sure to first open Reason on its own, close it, and then open pro tools. ReWire should work from then onwards.

It seems as though installing a new version of pro tools creates some small bug which fixes itself with simply opening Reason on its own once PT8 has been installed.

All my sessions seem to be working now. Hope this helps

This didn't worked for me either. Here's a workaround that I read at the DUC's forum:

If you open PT8 (not the session) and then Reason (not the session) and after that you open your PT8 session and then load Reason's session everything works fine.

same problem

i ve run into the same problem, digidesign says that it may happen when you are opening sessions made in older versions of pro tools, their solution according to the read me is: close the session and reason then create a new session, create an instrument or aux track and insert reason....then close the session but leave reason open....then open the session you need to work on............... .didnt worked out for me at first ..... you have to relaunch pro tools not just the session then it works.

they suck dont they?

Yep, the ReadMe for both the HD and LE versions of PT8 admits that this is a bug. However, the claim that it works fine from then on out I have not found to be true. The only way I can get Reason to Rewire is if I start with Pro Tools not open, open it, start a new session, do the create a track with reason as an insert thing... allow reason to open properly, then close my PT session and re-open the PT session that I already had rewired inserts on. As someone else has noted, once you've opened a session where the rewire doesn't work, you have to quit pro tools and re-launch it before doing the new session, new track with reason insert thing. THIS IS INSANELY ANNOYING.... I really hope they fix this soon.

On a related note, whenever I rewire Live into Logic or Pro Tools is seems to crash the host about 50% of the time upon closing the Live Session or quitting live. Could anyone shed any light on this? This problem seems to persist on PT 7, Logic 7, PT 8, Logic 8, OS 10.5.5, OS 10.4 on multiple computers. I am using the latest update of Live 7....

I posted something like this the day after I got 8 at the DUC. We banged around the same suggestions and ended up with some fixes working for some and other strange things. I don't use the reason app, but I use Melodyne for tuning a lot...this has really put a kink in my current workflow. If anyone has any other ideas for rewire, let us know.

Gotta say that we did a clean OS and PT install from the ground up and the rewire issue does no longer exists. BTW, we have Melodyne plug-in and Reason.

We had the exact same problem until we turned Airport off, do you by chance have Airport turned on while PT is running? Believe it or not that solved our problem.

If you have the most up to date versions of both, I don't think it's a problem...from experience, the issues come when the most recently installed program contained an older version of rewire.

Oh God I am afraid to update melodyne or protools cause I am totally stable right now. Actually have been for years. Is it something I can do in like a 3 day period and not shut down?

Or maybe I should build another PC and try it there first...

+1

PT inside Leopard has a tendency to not function well with airport turned on (this according to a Digi Rep). I've heard of a few people having this problem. It's not a myth.

This is correct. Plus, check your entire machine for any old apps that use Rewire. I had some old version of Melodyne. I removed them and my problems were solved.

I personally never use Reason as a stand alone. I have a PT 8 template called "Reason".

Works great.

My problem is similar but is even more intense and has stressed me out alot!

I'm using Pro-Tools 8.1 with Reason 3.0 on Vista

These programs won't rewire together and reason doesn't show up in the plug-ins list, I also have Amplitube 2 which also doesn't show up in the plug-ins list! It seems no external programs are communicating with pro tools.

I am new to using Pro-tools on a PC after my mac broke down I used to us Pro-tolls 6.9 and everything seemed to work no problem!

Much help is needed! Thanks

ReWire problem

I have the exact same problem as you before me,,,, Im using Pro Tools 8 with Reason 3.0 except on a mac...

It seems that every other program I have from Melodyne to Torc will work perfectly thru ReWire but Reason wont even show up as an insert...

Ive tried re-installing both programs and its still the same,,, Does anyone know what could be the cause???

I have a similar problem, but my problem is this:

a few weeks back, all of a sudden PT8 won't open. Then i try re-installing and all that stuff and it still won't open!! but then i tried deleting the inputs that were last displayed in the loading session while opening pro tools and that plugin was "ReWire". Then PT8 works fine but i don't have the ReWire plugin so i can't open Reason!!!

This sucks! I use reason a LOT, so is there anyone out there that can help me? Please

Cool A Logical Solution

So here was my problem. I installed PT 8 and then Installed Reason 3.0, Pro tools didnt recognize Reason as an instrument. (MAC OS X 10.5.8 2.4 GHz Intel, Mem 2 GB).

I found out that I had to update Reason to version 3.0.5 this is a free upgrade to registered users of 3.0. Problem solved.

I was getting the error Can not open Reason Engine everytime i launched reason while PT was open. Also for windows users i saw that there was an Rewire upgrade. You have to go to Propellerheads site, go to support, list your product and soon enough you will be guided to the downloads page.

And remember you have to open Reason for the first time then quit it before you launch PT. Once PT opens select Reason as an instrument and ReWire will open it.

YOUR WELCOME!

Is there a fix for this problem yet?? I don't use reason. I'm trying to use Waves Tune but it's not connecting to ReWire nor can I find it in my instruments??? I've searched everywhere on the net and have tried every suggestion on every forum and still no luck! So I decided to tune the vocals through audiosuite instead but I can't for the life of me load the audio into the audiosuite?? I have the full version of waves tune! What gives?? I am very frustrated right now!
Please HELP!!
