Thread Starter | I need a serious independant mac protools mixer to mix out of MY room in Hollywood. Most of my work is pop rock, modern rock to metal, some dance and hip hop. Anything style wise from Kelly Clarkson to Nickelback to Paramore to Slipknot to Foo Fighters to Brittany. This not a gig for someone fresh out of school or who has only mixed demos on their Digi002 at home. This is for someone who's getting serious sounds and is a pro at editing and making it sound like the radio. It's also an opportunity to track, produce, engineer and songwrite if you want. We are on the footsteps of greatness; management company, publishing firm, full artist development. We start shopping 3 artists in Febuary and my first national release for Nickelodeon is end of January; Wallmart, Target etc... Studio: James Lugo's Vocal Asylum Management: James Lugo's Vocal Asylum Roster: James Lugo's Vocal Asylum Publishing Company: Writing Giants Music Publishing I am dead serious about all this, if you want to chat about the woes of the music business, how the radio sucks, how mixing ITB isn't as good as the old days or probems with the economy I'm not interested! If interested please do not PM, email me at: james@jameslugo.com Put 'MIXER and then your name' in the subject of email. This is a great opportunity for the right person. We are slammin'.

Thread Starter | Whoa... Got a lot of emails this morning. I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow so I will be returning them over the next few days. As far as mixers that are out of town, it's not really what I'm looking for for numerous reasons: 1. I'm a creature of habit and have gotten spoiled by having a mixer at my place. 2. I like to do finish tweaks with the client, I want the sessions to open fully on my system. I have a lot of boutique plugs and when guys want to have sessions that they did in their room be able to open on my system the usually use only Waves plugins and it just doesn't always sound the best it can. 3. I like to sometimes have the mixer work with me on production and give me their input on what they think the guitars should sound like from a mixers stand point. 4. I love working with someone local so they can just jump over in a pinch if they can. 5. I have found sometimes a mixer alone on an entire mix can be a time and money waster. I can't tell you how many times mixers go in a direction that the client or I don't see the vision and they end up spending countless hours automating rides and effects that are going to be scrapped in reality. This doesn't mean I stand over anyones shoulder, it's just I teach voice in the room next door so I hear while the mixing is going on and if something I hear isn't going to work I can circumvent the situation and avoid wasted time and money. So, honestly working long term with someone out of state or out of country is slim to none. I really want someone to come on board learn my room and make it happen. Be apart of what we have going on. I'm also not looking for someone to relocate for this gig. It's not that kind of gig, it's something where you may put in long hours for 2 weeks and then nothing for a 3 weeks. I really want an independant local mixer to jump in. Someone who's getting radio level mixes. I know guys with nice rooms want to work in their spot, I understand that. Maybe a local guy can get the mix happening at their place and then bring it to mine to finish tweak it. I'm not opposed to buying plugins that we need to make it happen. Peace |

| I think James probably needs a younger guy that is loaded with talent (who can live on pizza and beer) and is ready to showcase that talent and take the leap into the game. Not an older guy who has house mortgages, a wife, kids, etc and needs steady schedules and paychecks. James is a good guy. Would be a cool place to work. |

| Hey James, It's Kevin... Since I was over at your studio last for the background vocal session, I've been donig a lot of mixing for the Smashing Pumpkins. I mixed a lot of the music in their new documenary, as well as the film itself. I also mixed one of the tracks, Everlasting Gaze, for the new Guitar Hero. Right now, I'm almost finished mixing their 20th Anniversary tour shows for the website nugs.net. Let me know if there's a time we could talk about the mixing gig at your place. Thanks! Kevin |

Thread Starter | Thanks for all the replies. I'm actually shocked at the callober of mixers that have emailed me. Some really amazing guys with amazing careers! I've heard some killer mixes this week. Also I'm not looking to run anyone ragged, I realized after someone commented about the 80 hour thing it may seem over the top but anyone who makes rock-n-roll knows it can get intense trying to finish a record and there's usually a series of loooong nights somewhere in the chain. ![]() I'm on vacation right now in Gibsonville North Carolina for Christmas and also preparing with my future in-laws for their daughter and I's wedding next year, her and her mom are out picking out wedding dresses and her dad and I are sittin' around talkin' polotics. Sooooo I will be getting back to everyone in the next few days. |
