easy question about amp modeling software!

A few months ago I was watching a demo video in which a famous guitar player/designer/manufacturer (who's name escapes me) was doing A/B comparisons between amp modeling software and the actual amp/mic set up in a studio somewhere. I remembered the difference with this particular software is that you have to buy an external interface that creates a virtual amp resistance on the guitar signal. Could someone please tell me what I'm thinking of? I remember it sounding amazing but being pretty expensive.

any takers on this? i'm pretty sure it's a direct competitor with NI Guitar Rig. Has an external DI type of interface and the software is pretty intense.

Waves has a guitar interface that comes with theirs... don't know if that's what you mean...

If you're talking about the IK StompIO thing, it's only controlling the software. It's like a midi controller aimed for guitarists or bassists using Amplitude or Ampeg.

Maybe this is close to what you had in mind (first video):
Waves GTR | Videos

FWIW, I'm really liking the line6 pod farm plugin, especially for the price...

as mike said, you're probably thinking about the PRS guy with Waves GTR.

IMO the best amp/effect modeller at this stage is the Axe Fx Ultra, which is at about 1800 dollars, but it is rack gear. (Comes with software to edit though)
