Thread Starter | Minimizing preamp clipping... after it's too late. So today I recorded myself playing piano, but being by myself with the preamps in the other room, set them too hot... now there's alot of that horrible clipping going on. How can I process this out as best as possible? I just wanted to give my mom a CD of me playing piano, but now it sounds like the new Metallica album... I have Pro Tools, Logic, Audacity, and I'm getting a demo of RX now... anyway to use these to minimize this type of noise would help... EDIT - Here's a sample... | Gear addict | Probably just best to re-record it, if it's not to much trouble. |

| Too late now! I recorded a choir the other night and they did a final piece with a P.A. and a small rock band. I had the mic pres perfectly set for the acapella choir and choir and piano, but WAYYYYYYYYYYY too hot once the band started. I clipped the band recording BIG TIME, but even a restoration program like Izotope couldn't fix the first :30 sec before I cranked down the level. Too late! |

| I was just mixing a song where the vocal was tracked too hot in places and had clipping. The only thing that works for me is automated eq. |

| I had some success using a de-esser to help smooth out some transient distortion on a location recording I made of a trumpet recital. Give it a whirl... |
