| The Triton is one of the standards of the industry. PROS: Easy to use. Lots of producers use them. Familiar sounds that are on other people's records. CONS: See PROS For those reasons, I'd go with the Fantom given the choice between the 2, but the most popular seems to be the Motif. |

| The Motif ES would also be my choice. It is a little less intuitive to learn, but sounds better than the Triton (or the Fantom, based on my very limited experience with a Fantom). The "real" instruments on the Motif, esp. the electric pianos, pianos, Clavs, etc., are far better than the equivalent on the Triton. Dare I ask if you've considered the Oasys? ![]() |

| I beg to differ. I have a Fantom XR rack fully loaded with 6 expansion cards. It smokes the Triton Rack that I had. I also had a Motif ES Rack. Returned it same day. If you need some quality meat and potatoes sounds I would definitely lean towards the Fantom series first. And the expansions smoke any expansions Yamaha or Korg make.

| Well I don't know what Motifs you guys have been playing, but I've had the 88-key Korg Triton Studio for almost 3 years and was completely unimpressed by the Motif, to say the least. I rarely use synth instruments in recording- just for live gigs. But the Motif's piano is just, SEVERELY lacking. (Clunky and lifeless sounding.) Radiospace I'd be curious as to whether you tried the Triton in a quiet environment, because the two don't even deserve to be compared. All in all primo, whatever you end up getting, going in direct sounds like shit no matter what keyboard you buy. Tube preamps (if you don't already have them) are an invaluable enhancement. |

| I wonder who is going to throw the first punch I tried them all, but hung onto the MotifES... i thought it was just plain better. It won hands down. It had the sounds i was after and fit in well with my other gear... Prolly best to go and try them... see which on your like more. Hopefully we'll avoid the dfegad match over which is best. |

Yes I agree, BUT for the price of a good one, you could almost buy the Motif ES and the Fantom X. | |

| I'm not a huge synth guy, but a fellow has been bringing a Triton in here a bunch and it's been a pretty nice sounding board. He then brought in the Motif and I didn't think it was a huge step up but maybe it's just what he had programmed in it. Of course on board features should outweigh sounds as you can add those with outboard, the functions / playability of the board you're stuck with. War
