How to make custom preamp panel (art)?

hello,

I want to put a home made preamp into a rack panel (aluminum or steel), and i want to know what is the best material to "write" the functions, like "gain", "input", "pad", etc.

I don't want to use silk screen on it...any suggestions?

Do water slide decal work for it?

Thank you! thumbsup

Check out this company, they have done a few custom panels for me and their work is excellent.

Thanks so much for your input abtech, the software Front Panel Designer is awesome. I wish i could export to cad file...but it needs a export filter.

I think I will make the panel bymyself (cheaper ), i only need to know how to label the knobs etc...

You might want to go to an arts/drafting store and pick up some Letraset. Comes in many fonts and sizes, it is a dry transfer system that I used to use in my drafting days.I used it to label the front panel of some vintage Langevin pres that I had racked into an old black rack mount amp chassis. Basically with Letraset, you buy a sheet with a bunch of letters or numbers on it, hold the sheet in the right position, and scratch on top of the letter of your choice transferring it to your faceplate. If you are patient and do it right, it will look every bit as good as custom silkscreening. Good luck!

You can buy the DXF filter for FPE. It's an add-on and separate purchase.

Other ways to "label"...
engraving
laser
rub-on transfer,
silkscreen
masking tape
etching

you could stamp it rubber or metal

with rubber you would stamp on removable material and paint around

with a metal you could indent it and fill it in with paint
