Monitors close to wall. Internal mount or absorbers behind?

Hi guys. Sorry if this has been asked and answered, I couldn't find much searching. I have no choice but to have my monitors close to a wall. 6 inches or less. :( I'm about to upgrade my monitors, something in the $1000-1500 range, haven't decided on anything yet. My question is: Are there any monitors in particular that are better suited than others for my close wall situation? Maybe something front ported? Will heavy trapping and panels behind the speakers be sufficient enough? I also have the option of of cutting into the wall and mounting the monitors inside, as there is empty space behind. Would this be the best option? Right now I'm using some Logitech computer speakers as monitors, so I can't really assess what I need because those little 3 inchers don't put out much low end. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, especially if that's your only option.

Yes, that's better still, but only if the monitors have no rear port.
