Multi Digital out Interface

Hi,

I'm looking for an audio interface to feed an Apogee DA16.
I therefore need 16 digital out.

Are there big differences in quality between different makes?

Sorry, I didn't want to go into too much details;

I'll upgrade my studio, and am planning to buy dedicated AD/DA converters and a small desk or summing box to mix "out of the box".

Right now I use a 896HD Motu which I like for the convenient aspect of Firewire and the cue mix console(zero latency monitoring).
I need to upgrade that interface in order to get 16 digital out to feed the converters, but I want to keep the monitoring facility from the interface as I'll record through dedicated Pres and direct to the converters, so no monitoring via the desk.
Get me?
So what would be the solution? Any ideas welcome
