Thread Starter | Shure Beta 58 vs SM58
Hi, I think Shure Beta 58 is far better live vocal mic for male singers than the traditional SM58. The SM58 is muddy, unclear and undetailed. Beta 58 has a clearer sound and it is far more sensitive. SM58 needs also EQing. I know there are many Beta -haters here. This is my opinion. What is yours? |

The 58 is a good mic. it will get a lot done and sound good doing it. The beta 58 is not one of my favorites. It has a bite on the top end I dont often like. It sounds good on some singers and helps the trombone cut in a live mix. Somehow, I love the beta 57 tho. This is the same electronics and capsule as the beta 58, but different grill and body make it sound totally different. More open and smoother on the top end. The KSM 9 is a fine shure mic as is the little known SM86 (my favorite shure dynamic). Frost |
