My iPod is messed up! It keeps stopping.

I've got an 80 gig iPod. I love it. But lately it goes on PAUSE for no reason at all. Glancing at the Apple forums, it seems to be an issue.

I've reset it several times. I cleaned the headphone plug, you know, the guitar trick with DeToxIt. I thought maybe dirt had gotten in there. I thought it worked for about 10 minutes. But it's back.

Has anybody seen this and been successful at fixing it. It's VERY frustrating.

This was a Xmas present last year. I THINK I still have a warranty.

get a new one. don't wait for it to expire. these things are expendable.

If you have a warranty, wait no longer and make them replace it.

If that doesn't work, Home Depot sells a few different kinds of hammers that would do the trick.

take it in to a "apple store", they'll send you a refurb if it's still under warranty, which they can tell by the serial #. they dont need yer paperwork. then the refurb will die shortly after the warranty expires & you'll be perma screwed.

the mother board went bad on mine. wont take a charge anymore.
it's cheaper to buy a new one than to fix the old. $400 disposable electronics. it irritates me that i have synths from the early 80's that still work great & this thing cant last a couple years. no more apple products for me.

Do you have your itunes library backed up? If so, then just do a software restore, and reload all your itunes. No need to goto the apple store.

Yes. And I'm going to do that next, before the Apple Store. I had heard the restore doesn't fix this known issue though.

Apple's quality control has gone way down hill the last few years. Form over function these days.

Maybe the issue you're having is hardware related, but I fixed mine (80 gig, 5gen) with Disk Warrior.
If you have a Mac and Disk Warrior give it a try

Yes, it works, you have to enable disk mode (in itunes): it will show up as a hard disk.
Then you can use Disk Warrior to rebuild the directory
My Ipod was very slow, sometimes freezing
Disk Warrior fixed everything, hope it will works for you too

Ha! They just replaced it. Whew! Now for the next 2-3 hours I'll be uploading music from my iTunes Library.

I'm happy again.
