Thread Starter | for mixing: UAD2 or Zed-R16 ? Opinions please on which would make a better choice, IF I were going to spend money in order to sonically improve my mixes. I was really leaning toward the Zed, mainly because I also need to upgrade to 16 inputs,.. but with the economy such as it is, who knows if/when I'll be able to build my new home, with a full basement, which was going to be my new studio, giving me room to track with more inputs. ( I guess this last part should go to the "moan zone") .. Anyway, .. I currently mix mostly ITB, with some analog pieces inserted here and there within Cubase 4. I already have the UAD-1 platinum bundle, and really do think the plugs make a positive impact on my mixes. I've also read on here that the Zed-R16's analog circuitry is very sweet sounding. So, what do you guys think,.. would mixing through the Zed, or implementing more UAD power ( and perhaps the new neve channel strip ) make more impactful difference in my mixes. Thanks for your time. |

| OTB gives you more options, you can always mix with your current UAD per track and print (not sure how Cubase does this but you get my drift). A&H eq's and pre's on this should be pretty good. When the economy is bad hardware trumps software.

| I have done a couple of tests on my N12 with mixing back thru it vs mixing in the box in cubase 4.5.2 with waves platinum, urs pro, and some other high end plugs i have always mixed ITB and gotten very good results when i mixed back the this new n12 console though i got a different sound for sure. it was actually deeper almost muddier until i tweaked it and it really was nice, more depth so to speak?? and easier to pull together a mix however i wouldn't say it is better, just different in the end? for me i liked it better to the point i am thinking of another n12 to mix 16 outputs and stems back thru
