Thread Starter | Where to shop for gear in NYC?
I plan to be in NYC for my day job on Tuesday of next week. I may wind up having some time on my hands. If I wanted to take a few hours and go on a GS shopping spree, where would you recommend I go?
Keep in mind that I'm strictly a hack hobbyist, who likes buying things that get the job done on a budget. I am not adverse to buying new, but I would love to pick up some used bargains.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

| B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders
I've bought from them many times, but never been to the store.
Apparently, it's like Disney World for audio geeks.

B&H is great. It's a must see for the experience.
Also, right above Times Square, off of Broadway (I think on 49th street?) There is a strip of music stores.. probably the most in the same spot as anywhere in the city. Sam Ash, Manny's, there are a few brass shops, guitar, odds & ends.

B&H is cool to see for like 5 minutes, not much audio gear there. If you're a photographer it's much more fun however Adorama would be a better stop for photo gear.
Anyway check out Rogue Music , Dale Pro Audio, and Main Drag Music (Williamsburg). Rogue Music. We buy used musical equipment Dale Pro Audio - Broadcast & Field Audio, Live Sound + Install, Recording & Professional Parts MAIN DRAG MUSIC "Brooklyn's #1 Source for New, Used, Vintage Guitar/Instrument Sales and Repairs"
Stick your head into Armen's for a laugh, it's on the same block as Rogue.
East Village Music and First Flight are worth a quick visit if you're in their neighborhood.
Sam Ash, Manny's and Guitar Center and instant headaches.
Mercenary Audio does impromptu sales in Williamsburg out of a studio called Metro Sonic.
Contact Tony Wilson for details 646-321-4936.
If you're a guitar collector then you'll be in heaven as there is a load of great guitar shops here in NYC.
30th St. Guitars, Southside Guitars (Williamsburg), and Matt Umanov guitars.
For drums hit Drummer's World in Times Sq.
There's about a dozen threads on this, search around.

[sorry - don't mean to sound snarky, but cheap gear is not what NYC is known for]

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. | Main Drag in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, it's on Wythe Ave. corner of S. 1st Street.
Great selection of used guitars, bass, keys, amps, even some new stuff here and there, tons of pedals, etc. Most importantly, amazing people who run the place.

its kind of an online world now...Ive ived in both gear towns, LA and new york and LA beats it mostly in the space/ obsessivness requirements...but really the best thing about LA is the amount of gear being sold once its out of bleeding edge vogue..craigslist..new york just gets on with things, not an abundance of space ...and time to ponder these things.

I won't use pitch correcting software. I use "coaching" maybe you've heard of it. It keeps working even when you don't have it on. |

not sure but i think they went out of biz | Yeah, 7th, that was a good location, though, I did get hit by a van there. 8th and 38th, there's (was) a music bldg. there across from the "port'o'thority" is that the place? I had a room there long ago, that bldg sucked, but, I heard it was on the upswing.
