Subwoofer placement

i just picked up a sub but i wanna know the best place to put it in my lil home setup.
right now i have it in the middle of my monitors (20/20s)under the desk.. should i keep it there or place it at an angle or what...

The manufacture should tell you that ,but I believe it should be looking right at you.

Place the sub at the listening position. That's right where you sit. I would actually put it on the chair you sit on.

Buy an SPL meter at Radio Shack... Play some test tones and walk around the room to find the place where you get the highest volume in the room... It may be a corner, etc.... Then place the speaker there and you now have the optimal placement.

Almost as effective is simply walking around without the SPL meter and listening with your ears to where it sounds best to you and then placing it there.

The frequncies that the sub would play are essentially non directional in most control rooms, so it doesn't need to face you. I've actually gotten better results with the sub facing the wall.

Buy a second sub and place one in the middle of each wall and try that too.

the one is actually a workhorse. i don't need 2.. it sounds awesome..
i have a kriss spl meter b/c i use to do db drags and stuff like that so i already have a good meter.
i know one corner that always has a lot of bass but i'll be getting a few traps soon.. fo now i have it at a slight angle under the desk and my mixes already have cleaner lows

This is surprisingly, and consistently, an effective low-budget way to place a subwoofer. I've checked this with more sophisticated measurement systems and it is unsually accurate.
