Thread Starter | Question about Toft ATB submaster bus Hello, I have a quick question for all you Toft ATB users. I'm wondering about the submaster monitor section and the 'tape' button. Since I would primarily be using the board for mixdown...i'd use the submaster faders for groupings. Obviously I would want these to feed the master bus. Does this mean that anything plugged into the monitor returns on the submaster channels can 'not' also be sent to the main bus at the same time. The manual and sound on sound article don't make it clear to me...it sounds like that tape button essentially forces you to choose which signal path will go to the main bus...either the submaster groups, or submaster monitor returns...is this correct? Thanks.

| I think you are correct, and I say "I think" cause I was wondering the same thing and as you said, the manual won't explain it right, anyway, I own a atb32 and mostly for mixing as well, so what I discovered is that the submaster section is like pre asigned to the stereo out, there is no "asign to L and R button, and using the monitor subgroups inputs will cut the signal from the subgroups to the main out if you push the tape button on the subs master section and you have to turn the pot's on the submaster section in order for them to listen to the subgroups therefore to send them to the main out and monitor out I hope I am making any sense, English is not exactly great on me.... ![]()

Thread Starter | Thanks Tonio. No idea why it took so long to reply...guess I forgot I posted this. So...just to confirm: -In a mixdown situation...I have 8 individual drum tracks coming from my DAW into...say...channels 1-8 on the Toft... -I then route each of those individual channels (1-8) to submaster channels...say...1 and 2...creating a stereo 2 channel drum submix...which I can then process (compression) via the submaster inserts. -Finally...this 2 track drum submix can be mixed with all the the other incoming channels (say...input modules 9-24) and will show up on the master section/bus like it ought to. Thanks, Scott |

| Lives for gear | To clear it up: The Tape switch controls what is getting sent to the Mixbus (L/R) via the Group Monitors. You can either select the Group or the Group Return (Tape) as source for the Group Monitors. So whether you want to listen to the Group or the Group Return, you have to set the Level at the Group Monitor Return. HTH, Niko

| I believe that the monitor returns can also output to channels one through eight of the mixer, which might help a little bit. I have done this before, and it's handy. you can then route those channels however you'd like. From the manual: A further useful feature is that the balanced line level inputs connected to the submaster ‘MONITOR RETURNS’ are also connected to the ‘LINE INPUT’ jacks of channels 1-8.

| Below is totally what I do. In addition, sometimes I want to parallel compress all the drums or part of the drums. In that scenario I also route the drums to the master bus using the (L/R) buttons in the channel strips in addition to one of the submaster buttons. Super cool and easy: Quote:
