Peluso 2247 question

Something I'm really curious about and hoping someone could shed some light upon: what's the difference between the short body and the long body? The short body is $500 less expensive so there must be something. I've head such good things about that mic and I could probably only afford the short body, but would that be missing the whole tweak?

Short Body

2247 Vacuum Tube Microphone
This microphone is inspired by and styled after the "Neumann U-47", which was modified by German Radio in the '70s to incorporate a glass triode tube. That modification brought it up to broadcast standards. The Peluso 22 47 has the additional feature of 9 polar patterns, controlled from the power supply. It captures the low frequency nuances of the original "47" with smooth mids and balanced highs.

2247LE Long Body
This microphone is inspired by and styled after the legendary "Neumann U-47", utilizing the German steel tube ( Stahlröhren) . We use a Telefunken Steel Tube in the 22 47 LE which works excellently in the circuit and provides the same sonic quality as the VF14. Each tube is selected individually and the selection parameters are the same or even better as Neumann used for the VF14. There are some tubes in the Telefunken Steel Tube family which are perfectly suitable to replace the old VF14 if they get an independent filament supply.
Technically the only difference in the tube used in the old U47 is that the one that we use has a separate filament supply coming from the power supply.
Our 22 47 LE has the additional feature of 9 polar patterns, controlled from the power supply. It captures the low frequency nuances of the original "47" with smooth mids and balanced highs.

2247SE Long Body
We have identified some tubes in the American style Steel Tube family which work excellently in the circuit and provides the same sonic quality as the VF14. Each tube is selected individual and the selection parameters are the same or even better as Neumann used for the VF14. The American style tube has the advantage of being available in larger quantities than the German tubes.
Our 22 47 SE has the additional feature of 9 polar patterns, controlled from the power supply. It captures the low frequency nuances of the original "47" with smooth mids and balanced highs.

The microphone comes as a complete system, with Microphone In Wood Box, Power Supply, 7 Conductor Cable, and Shock Mount in Flight Case.

Hope this helps...
I just bought a Pearlman TM-1 in this price range.
