stealth, you might try at the DIY central http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/ . Jacob (Gyraf) is there. I've got 2 done but I'm on the other side f the globe.

Have you tried the LAB?? I'd be surprised if there wasn't someone on there who lived in LA and had a GSSL.

Funny. I live in La and just ordered all the parts for a Gssl. I'm gonna look for someone to make it for me (soldering is just not my thing).

I've always wondered how all the Gyraf units sound?

Yes, but then again I've heard that there's a secret mod that you did to your unit - something like a chrunchy timing option?

:-)

But basically you're right - final sound will depend somewhat on the components chosen - not so much on who's assembling it. And being a rather simple unit, there's not many fancy components in there that can f*** up your sound. It's not like building tube stuff where numerous component parameters has to be taken into account throughout the circuits in order to get predictable results..

Hi yall,

I am right about to embark on the gssl clone. Anyone want to discuss components - resistors, caps,... for different sounds? Also, I havent lookd much, but what power transformer do I need - the schematics are for 220Vac?

That is indeed the place to go. I found it easier to buy the parts from http://www1.jaycar.com.au/ like the parts list describes - too hard to locate the right thing with Digi-key. You may also want to design the power supply to switch between 110V and 220V - wish I had. I guess a DIY project is never done

It does the SSL thing well (*cough*cough* turbo mod)
as well as much more, depending...
I don't think I'll ever get rid of mine.

Agreed, especially about the turbo mod.

I have two and use them all the time.

Cheers,
