effect triggered by specific frequency range

Hey guys. New to the forums and looking for some advice on how to achieve a certain effect.

What i would like is for a certain frequency (ie upper harmonics) to trigger a delay effect that is activated when these frequencies are heard but then decay as the frequencies change. Now, aside from actually manually shaping the effects volume envelope, is it possible to trigger this via side-chaining? It would save me a world of trouble!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place as i saw somewhat similar questions in this forum so i posted it here.

put a bandpass filter of some sort on an FX send, singling out the frequencies you want effected.. run that output into your effect.

The most obvious use of this I can think of is the end of 'Karma Police' by Radiohead.. it's like they set up for a de-esser, then replaced it with a delay instead. You can clearly hear the delay, but just on the accented sibilance.

Do you want the delayed signal to be full bandwidth audio, but triggered when certain frequencies are more present in it?

To do that, maybe you could duplicate the track you want to effect, use a bandpass filter for the frequency you want to have as the trigger. Then make another duplicate of the original audio track, and put an expander on it, with the sidechain fed from the bandpass EQ'd track. Feed that track into a delay.

I haven't tried it, I just imagine that it would work as you described..

Those SSL channels by waves have a gate/exp and an eq (wich you can sidechain). That's how I usually do stuff like that (gating drums). Just put this plug (or similiar) before the FX you want to trigger, eq it until you only have the frequencies you want to be triggering, hit the EQ>DYN S/C button and set the gate.

Hope this helps.
