Songs / Albums with Crescendo ?

Does anyone know some good examples of songs or albums that do a good job of bringing volume and dynamics up as they progress to add to the excitement ?

Most songs / albums I hear don't change volume.

Thanks

Have a listen to some Godspeed You Black Emperor! Highly recommended, in particular you could check out "lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven". Bon Appetit

'Yes' Close to the edge almost everysong. Metallica obviously were dynamic. Zeppelin did that all the time. Sabbath were very dynamic one of the best. The post surf beachboys were dynamic. Pet sounds is arguably the most dynamic record ever for an orchestral pop record. Many 'Rush' songs have this quailty.

I always thought Pantera were masters of dynamics in their genre as were VH. You could feel the emotion as it peaked it was all 3 players competing but blending. Taking you to a place or different places throughout a track. As much as I hate Nirvava a track like 'In Bloom' was pretty cool dynamically. He took you down and brought you back up . My favorite dynamic track might be 'Times of Trouble' by Temple of the Dog. Holy shiat. Don't get much better than that! Cornell we know is king but his vocals on that song are just on another level in translating emotion to tape. He did that Again on 'Fell on Black Days'. Genius......

Another track that stands out in my mind is Slow and Easy by Whitesnake. Cozy Powell is just insane on that as is David Coverdale. Dymanics o nthat songs are superb.

Lets face it , until the overuse of compression in late 70's and beyond, the dynamics as you are asking were common place in all music. Compression ruined dynamics. Now you have misuse of comp and limiting. In the 80's it was just compression now it's both. Not to say you can't be dynamic with compression but when you squash everything 10:1 it makes it tougher.

All Classical music is pretty much up and down dynamically speaking.

Fernand by Jacques Brel builds and builds to an amazing crescendo. Darling Be Home Soon by the Lovin' Spoonful. Try a Little Tenderness (and I'm sure many others) by Otis Redding.

Creep

Radiohead 'Creep' has a big dynamic change going into the chorus as does 'Creep' by Stone Temple Pilots.
