audio-interface stand alone or AI + mixer?

Hi all,

I borrow a M-AUDIO fw 410 for quiet some time from a friend.

- But the first problem is that a always have to switch on the computer before I can play, otherwise I have to remover all cables from the M-AUDIO and put them in my amps. I’ve heard of stand alone audio-interface; you don’t have to put on your pc if you just want to play; they function as a mixer as well.
- The second problem is that I need 4 or more mic-inputs (with pre-amps!) and at least 5 inputs for instruments.

So, my question is if someone can advise me a audio-interface with stand alone function with enough inputs. Brand, type,…? I heard about the motu traveller, alesis multimix 16 FW, tascam 1641 (does this one has got the stand alone function?), presonus firestudio project,…

OR should I just buy a for example tascam US 122 with a mixer? It would do the work just the same?

Which solution is the ‘best’? Which one should you opt for?

PS sorry, English is not my mother tongue... :-s

I'm looking for something similar. I have been looking at the Tascam US-1641 and the ESI ESU1808.

Both of them have had good reviews.

If you need a built-in mixer, then you will have to look at something else.

hi

I'm also looking for a rack-mount firewire audio-interface that could work as a mixer in stand-alone mode. So far I've looked at some focusrite, presonus and MOTU models. The MOTU Traveler mk3 has the capability for signal routing, adjustment, efx, etc... all in stand-alone mode, something that other units lack or have a very limited capability of. Unfortunately it looks like the audio quality and driver stability of the Traveler Mk3 sux, according to reviews here and on other sites. Maybe some1 knows of a solution that's just as flexible as Traveler but without the glitches?
