Thread Starter | Bought a used UAD-1 card online, but........!!!
...the box arrived this afternoon, and the card inside is NOT a UAD-1 card!!! I have a Mackie and a UA version of the UAD-1 (pci). This card that arrived has a video and audio output for f%$k sake. WTF?

You just got ripped off. :( The UAD-1 (Mackie or otherwise) has no I/O on it other than the PCI connectors. The rear bracket should be flat with no connections whatsoever. It should basically look exactly like the UAD-1s you have now. But, I'm sure you know all this already. Make sure you sue this asshole. Good luck. Mike |

Well, I heard back from the seller, and he, again, assured me that it is a Mackie UAD-1 card. He insisted I install it. Also, he transferred the registration to my account on the UA site. Guess what, the bloody thing works as it should. With the two cards I already had, I was maxing out resources. With it in, I can insert more instances of all kinds of plug-ins. Weird! Does anyone know if the earliest versions of the card were released with audio and video outputs? The heatsink is different than the other two cards I have, too.

I do know that the UAD-1 is based on the MPACT2 chip. This is a video chip with mpeg decoding, and was used on video cards made by Chromatic Research. I guess it's not beyond the realms of possibility that your third card could be seen as a UAD-1 card. However, I doubt the card you bought is a UAD-1 card, but if it works OK, well, there's your dilema. Do you try to get your bucks back - I doubt it is a UAD-1 card, or f$%k it, it works. Could you post a picture? |

Looks like he sold you an old cheap video card which is what the UAD-1 card actually is. There are a few old video cards out there that work with the UAD plugs. He probably had a real UAD-1 card and sold that off by itself (without the plugs) and transfered the plugs to you with this sale and pocketed an extra couple hundred bucks in the process (these old video cards that work were few and far between but only go for $5 used). You are basically buying the plugs so you are not ripped off too bad, it's just if you want to sell it down the line that you are tripped up. You are screwed on buying/adding plugs to that setup too.
