using impulses to decide what reverb to buy

Hi all,

I haven't posted here in forever, it's nice to see the board is still going strong. Now that I'm recording again I'd still like to get one nice thick lush vocal reverb, in the $1000-$2000 range. I figure impulses might be a good way to see what reverb unit I might like. How close do the noise vault impulses (of the respective units) used with SIR come to the sound of the following units:

Lexicon PCM 91
Kurzweil KSP 8
TC 4000

Have any of you compared the impulses to the actual unit?

Cheers,
Lumen

I this for live shows? If it's for the studio, check out Altiverb.

i dunno, i have had mixed results with IR's of hardware units. first of all you cant tweak as much about the verb as with the hardware unit... and i dont think a lot of them captured [that i have heard 80,90,300,480,960,etc] really sound very good.

capturing rooms is one thing, capturing hardware is another. there is just something bizarre about it.

but things like the wendy carlos plates sound pretty good and the rooms sound fantastic, but the rooms arent as much about VERB as they are about SPACE.

Which patch on each unit? I think this is not the way to make a buying decision.
I own the lex and the KSP 8, of those 2 get the KSP its not even close

Find yourself a Roland R-880 with controller. You won't regret it.
