cheapest way to get into PT?

I currently run Cubase and Sonar in my home studio. i use a yamaha N12 mixer for my AD/DA, I/O, etc and also an M24 mixed logic controller (which supposedly works with pro tools, at least to some extent)

my questions is, looking at PT8, i would like to check out PT but maybe with an Mbox or something cheap to get started and see how it goes.

my questions is what is the best or cheapest/best scenario to get into PT's? and can i use my N12 still??

thanks for any info

not sure what a N12 is , look for a 002 rack on here or ebay, i bought one at Atlanta Pro Audio and they gave me 7.4.2 software, im digging it, not sure what your price range is but you can get a 002r from 500-700.
Just so you know i don't use the preamps on convertors so by using them it may not sound so great.

Why?????????????? Cubase is easily as capable as HD!!!!!!!!! Going to LE 8 would be a huge downgrade, plus you will be stuck with their crappy hardware choices! Do you not have SX3 or Cubase 4? Don't do it, your wallet will regret it over and over again. Spend some money on a good interface for Cubase (there are lots of great ones), upgrade if don't have the top version, then use the money you saved to buy toys or room treatment!

Great deals can be had right now on the 002r and 002 console. People are dumping them for as low as $500. That's about what it would cost you to get a new mbox, but you'll have much more I/O.

I took the protools dive about 3 years ago after being a faithful cubase user. I got a mbox1 wich i just used as a dongle but then upgraded to 002 then to the 003 with another $800 mod to it. If you want to go protools LE then the cheapest would be to ebay an old mbox can get them for about $200 or you could go Protools M Powered with sound cards starting as low as $100 but........

All of this is up to you.

1. Do you "need" Protools?

If not stick with what you got and spend your money in better places.
