Compressor Workshop panel AES show San Francisco 2008

Got to go to the compressor workshop today. 6 of the all time greats all up on stage talking about comps.

Dave Derr
Wade Goeke
Dave Hill
Hutch
George Massenberg
Rupert Neve

To sit there and listen to them discuss how, when the first compressors came out, the different methods of doing it. It was amazing.

Yea - amazing. Just wished the moderator would keep it short and let Rupert Neve do more talking...

Wow! Quite a panel, I wish I'd been there.
BTW, in this pic, Dave Derr looks just like Tim "Toolman" Taylor. Good to know he's got better skills than the Home Improver.

This was one of my favorite moments of the whole show. Dave Derr and Wade's approach is such a contrast to George and Dave Hill...Wade couldn't stop cracking a smile, you could tell he was just geeking out sitting next to Rupert Neve and was having a good time.

Everyone's personality fit their designs, which I thought was interesting.

This was a great event. I thought that the moderator got in the way a few times but other than that it was awesome. It was very interesting to hear the different opinions and design goals.

The moderator didn't bother me much, except that he'd like to butt in and tell everyone about all the great, expensive, vintage gear he has.

I loved it when he was like "oh and im the proud owner of a new 2" machine [i cant remember what he said he actually got]" and he thought he was tight. Then Massenburg chimes in and said "but do you have tape?"
HAHA

it was great.

take that fab dupont.

ps-he was actually pretty good. but the gear touting was a little obnoksh.

I want to know who's going to win the bet between George and Wade. And I'd love to be there when the bet's settled.

Does anybody know if there is a place online to watch a video of this panel discussion? What was the bet?

This looks like it was really interesting. Great minds up there!

I think it will be available - I have already asked Cutting Edge SF (the sponsors of the event) if we can link to it / show it here and they agreed. So watch this space for an update..
