cross format transfers

I have a record to mix that was recorded in Nuendo. It was transferred to wav files so it could be imported as a Protools HD session.
Now I have the transfer and internally.....within the drum tracks for example, that were all transferred at once, everything is drifting by different amounts , almost as tho there is some weird time stretching going on, Between the top of the song and the end ... the snare drifts 30 ms the bass drum 14 ms the overheads by some other amount!!!! What gives......? any ideas.
This record is by one of the biggest acts in the U.S right now, and I'm stupefied that problems like this can go unnoticed until its almost too late.
Any ideas what could cause this so I can tell the transfer engineer what to do...other than to use his ears?
Peace Shipley
It cant be THAT difficult.

Can they flatten the Nuendo audio files, just start them all at the same sample or is that what they tried to do? That word "transferred" would make me nervous!

Was there any sample rate conversion involved? Did they provide documentation confirming what sample rate all the files were at?

If it's none of the above, the only thing I could imagine is that someone screwed up doing the consolidations in Nuendo. The thing with Nuendo is that there are several potential ways to consolidate and/or export files, and they don't all work the same, so if the recording engineer is a recent Nuendo convert he/she may not have consolidated/exported properly.

I had a nuendo client send me some files to mix - same thing happened. He had selected audio for export in nuendo, but the files didn't start at zero. He just figured they LOOKED like they started at zero! While editing, he had phase aligned them, so movements were small (sample-level), but after I imported them they appeared to be locked then drift. Could this be a similar thing? Am I even making sense? Hope so.

Long day....

peace

Came upon this thread searching for something else. Mike did you ever get this sorted out, and if so, what was the problem? Seems like it may have been something to do with the automatic delay/latency compensation stuff in Nuendo, though I don't know why that would be a factor when exported. Just curious if the two platforms don't play nice.

Yeh, he's probably already re-done the transfer or something. I have always "bounce selection" and have never had any problems Shipshape is talking about. Curious though did you find out exactly what it was Shipshape?
