What Gear gets the "WOW" from your clients??

ok so we all know it...it's not always about the sound for the client but more about the looks and "name"
what gear do you guys have that makes your client go "WOOOOW"!!

mine in order:

1-- In Line DDA console 36 input 24 bus (even when it's off it looks impressive)
2--AVALON 737 Blue Led baby face mod (clients always love this thing usually that's the only piece they will know or have heard about)
3-- Lexicon 480 L (ok nobody really knows what it is but they've all seen it on a big desk in a studio)
4--Yamaha NS 10 ( the white speakers maiiiiN!!)
5-- Neve 1084 (that's really more for people (ingenier/producers ec..) that will know a bit more then you average artists)
6-- The MIKO..people are just intrigued by that thing

guitars.

the cheap organ in the corner (?????)

nothing in the rack.

sometimes people come up to the board and ask me if i know what "all" of the knobs do. i tell them i have no idea and i just turn whichever knob is closest to where i am sitting.

- Nash Relic P-Bass
- Gefell UM900 ("this thing looks expensive, how much was it?")
- One of the Gibsons (feels amazing, Antiquity pickups, pretty beat up)
- Rhodes Mark V
- Dunnet Stainless Steel snare

Those get mentioned every time I start a new project.

It's a conversation starter.

I've had people walk in, look at my 6ft+ Audient board and say; 'Nice keyboard', or 'Is that a keyboard?', 'What a keyboard!'

Obviously not clients!

Nope not in my home. And I'm actually thinking the room could be the first LE-based studio that might make the cover of Mix. That would be provocative.

I believe I am the piece of gear that gets the most wows from my clients. Its really interesting actually. I've arrived at this conclusion based on the following:

1) I am a tool.
2) Some of my clients seem to like to push my buttons.
3) I make a lot of noise.
4) Clients seem to keep coming back.

clients love my room. they always comment on and come back for the vibe. I just made my first brand-to-impress purchase and it's just an api 500 series pre. other than that, the results speak for them selves.

I usually impress people when they comment of the 737sp and I say this pendulum above it eats the 737 alive.

The control room
Antares harmony engine(most rock guys cant find their own harmonies)
Bass players love it when I put Waves Rbass on the track

a/b ing any gear with the 'b' being louder will wow them.

The average artist doesn't know shit about gear...

I had an artist look at my rack and point to my vintage 1176's and my Neve preamps and say "You don't still use this old shit do you? You need to get one of those Control 24's in here"....

I'm like, "Yeah, I'm saving up for one".

I wonder what the reaction to a tape machine would have been.

haha. saw this after i posted my last one. I really do love it when people think All digital gear is better.

hey bro, just because everything else in your life is consumed by digital technology, doesnt mean that the beauties that still live in the analog realm are at all worthless.

I tell them no, but then point at one and say "I just learned what that one does, last week."

I think because of all the LEDs, faders and knobs, the Control-24 seems
to get the most interest .. even if few clients really know what it
does.

That's when you patiently shuffle them over to the isolation booth and think to yourself, "Ok stay in you're little box and everything will be gr8!"
