Do you know what this is? (odd vintage mic)

this showed up on the Bay as "vintage drum mic" and as i've never seen anything like it, i bought it.

as soon as i plug it in (1/4 connector) i'll give a sample of what it sounds like...

just curious if anyone can give a clue what it is (piece of plastic with a phono glued to it ). i'm not really looking for "sounds like" as much as history and brand type stuff so i can research it a bit.

Kind of looks more like an old pa horn. If it's really a mic, that is the strangest one I've seen. I hope someone here can help you out. I'm curious.

Geez, man, that's pretty weird. Are you sure it's not a doorbell on a mic stand, or something like that? And why is it all copper? What could possibly be the reason for that?

Looks like a homemade drum trigger.

ok, definately works as a mic but...

very low gain and major hum unless i ground (via the metal clamp) to my gear. it almost sounds like a contact mic, molded completely in plastic, its not a horn or klaxon i'm pretty sure, the cable goes into the plastic molding and other than the cable there are no signs of elements or openings where sound would be produced or recieved.

could be a trigger, but its mounting makes me think (if its original purpose was drum micing or triggering) that you are supposed to clamp this on a drum rack or stand and it pics up more of the contact vibrations of the kit than the sound.

still interested if anyone has seen this before,

to be more precise, its not copper (though i can see how the picture looks it) just a plastimolding with a 1/4" on a flange connected to a pipe clamp.
