Mono effects and intimacy

I've been noticing more of this as I go through my old favorites. Recently got a fresh copy of Alice Cooper 'Goes To Hell' (Bob Ezrin, producer). What a great rock classic! I still love this record. That song 'I'm The Coolist' is just one of those songs that always puts a huge smile on my face!

Anyway, there are mostly mono effects. The vocals, the snares, the toms, everything. Mostly in the middle, but toms or guitars that come up in stereo have mono effects in position. This really adds intimacy to the voice and the instruments. And much more definition, the different instruments really seem more distinct.

Seems like the more I really listen to even these old recordings by the masters, the more I have to completely rethink what I thought I knew.

Whoa - somebody used a word like "intimacy" - dang.

I bet you make good records! Not something I had noticed myself, but you are looking at (and for) the right things.... amen!

Hi Brian and thanks! I wish I could say I do. I think I really *could* make good records. Unfortunately I just dabble in this stuff mostly with my own music, no commercial releases. Yet.
