Hi guys,
I've been listening to these tests, because I've decided to upgrade converters from my dfegadMotu rig...
I found the SSL to be very neutral, but also a little less bright on the highs, when clocked internally. Clocked externally it seems a bit brighter, but not revealing.
The apogees AD16x definitely colour the sound, but in a good 3 dimensional way... Pleasant to the ears. (I Like it specially on the "oldman blues" for that).
The Rosetta sounds a bit smaller compared to all the others... seems to have been recorded at a lower level? But the overall sound is thinner, when compared to the others.
The Digi192 sounded ok, but makes you miss the apogee kind of 3D...
Seems to me that the Lynx sounds the most equal to the source recorded. No hyped but accurate highs and mids. Tight Lows. Very neutral.
Following my instincts and having heard this test-files (
by the way, I can not thank you enough, for the work doing this! It's the only test I've found on theese converters!!)

I conclude:
Digi192: Not worth the money. A bit sterile...
Lynx: Very nice. And for 16 ad+ 16 da it's a good deal!
Rosetta: Not worth the money.
Apogee AD16X: Sounds great, coloured, but very pleasant (almost like tape!). A bit overpriced for only 16 AD's...
SSL Alpha-Link: My next choice right after the Lynx Aurora. Tempting... the price is AMAZING for 24 AD + 24 DA and the Madi connectivity. Definitely de best deal!
So as you can see, I'm pretty much decided to go either the Lynx or the SSL way. I think the apogee, would be a nice add to my rig, just to have the choice of giving it a bit of that really nice Colour...
Well, but I guess I'll leave that better for the Mastering engineers....
I would really like to hear some more opinions about this tests, from you all... just to compare.
Thanks again, and hope to hear from you all soon...
Toni
