HUM D. I. H.

Anyone happen to have any inside info about Hum's downward is heavenward sound?

Its a pretty sticky saturated and compressed sounding record with a resonant bass end.

Not sure how the record was made. I'm pretty sure they did it themselves. It's a pretty sick record.... love it. Have you heard the new band with those guys. The name escapes me, I remember it being some pretty cool stuff. Slow and heavy sort like Hum.

Hmmm... I dont know much of the specifics but I can tell you who recorded and where. Mark Rubel at Pogo Studio in Champaign IL tracked it on a reel to reel using his api console. He is a real cool guy, he tracked the better part of our album too. The website for his studio lists most of his equipment and send him an email if you have any specific questions. Like I said he's a real nice guy and would probably respond to any questions. http://www.shout.net/~pogostudio

i once had a very short conversation with brian malouf. i said "damn i love the Hum album you mixed, did it sound anything like that from the start?" he said "HELL NO" and overall rip and slamming-ness was from him. i think he said it was on an SSL. it was also the first time i really heard about parallel compression.
(of course he may have been busting my balls, im sure it had to sound somewhat awesome to start with)

i think that album sounds cool. i like the soundstage.

theres a hot pic of them tracking (or posing?) on the inside cover...

Mark Rubel is a great guy who does great work. He's one of my favorite people!

Matt Talbot from HUM is also a very nice guy. He picked up my MCI machine for the price of half of his gas to KC and back. Centaur is his current band. He has a cool studio in Tolono IL (the middle of nowhere?) called Great Western Recorders. Check it out.
