The last Studer tape machine rolled off the line around 1999, didn't it?

Yeah, Studer keeps doing runs of the 824. It's showing as a current product on their website as of today.

At the lower end, Tascam still has a single half track 15ips machine on their site. I hear they'd ramp back up in a minute if there was a sudden substantial wave of nostalgia that translated into paying customers (ie:..millions of paying customers, not 4,600 of em)....and not at ebay prices.

There are a couple of other companies that put out press releases about future machines, but I think I'd have to see stock that's actually shipping before I believed it.

Believe it or not, there's a company in Eastern Europe manufacturing brand new tape decks.

I wish I could remember their name.

i would dearly love to have a 1/2" machine to mix down to, but......
what is the availability of tape? i could have sworn that i had read on the net somewhere that the last manufacturer of tape had ceased production. and what about the procurement of alignment tapes?
hope that i'm not taking this thread off topic.

There are three audio tape manufacturers now. ATR Services, the employee purchased Quantegy, and one other boutique maker whose name escapes me.

i was actually thinking of tim de paravincini's ATR as an investment. just checking their price PDF and list of clients makes me wonder if the shipping from GB would be worth it.
