Sorry about the other troubles. I can't do the theater gigs, too much stress with too little reward for my blood. Ah well, my class is going to start up soon so I gotta run.

Good day all.
Apparently ours is getting refurbished soon. From a distance it's beautiful!
And as for the worth of theater shows; I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately I pretty much have to do this (college + can't get any work). They have an engineer who is constantly on my back about what I've done wrong (simply because he does it differently and CONSTANTLY messes with my setup); very irritating.

Ugh don't get me started on dance shows. The ones I did were girls aged between 13 and 16 too. Try THAT! Hormonal!

I hear ya. I had a gig this summer in a theater that went horrible! The gear was shit, 3 of the 14 wireless mics worked perfectly, the others had huge dead spots, the mic heads were always breaking, and almost all the music was on minidisc. After all the pressure to get them all working (which I never could do anyway) I was quite happy that they replaced me and that I will never have to work theater sound again.

I might do some here at the university next semester or even next fall, but that's merely because I'm the only even semi-qualified student Sound worker. The only problem is that the director of one of the shows I worked on this summer will be directing the musical next semester. But it pays the bills...hmm....

I was just thinking about you Warren. You showed up in a thread over @ TapeOp recently. Someone asked "Where to buy gear with a clean conscience".

You were the second person listed. Just thought you'd like to know that you were thought of highly.

Haven't been on here for a while but I thought I'd ask if anyone with some electronic skills wants to take a look at my RME ADI-8 for me. When I got it the guy said that channels 1-2 outputs don't work. I've never needed it for that but now I kinda do.
I'm not asking for a handout or anything and I'd be willing to pay someone a fair price to fix it if they think they can.

Anyone interested? Shiaman?
Pm me if you are.

I wanted to let everyone that wanted to help with shipping that I will be shipping out b808's computer and digi 001 rack by the end of this week. I (finally) have my new rig up and running! My pay pal account is "dusty.reels@yahoo.com" " I'm not sure how all that works exactly cause I've never received money from it. I assume it uses my email address. If you do send money to it, post it here. Not so you can toot your own whistle but so others know and I don't get more than I need. I am affraid the shipping is going to be quite expensive. The shipping calculater made me think it would be more than $80.00 but I'm sure when I take it to the post office I will be able to figure out a (hopefully much) less expensive way to do it. I wish I had the money to ship it myself but I am currently the sole provider for my family so I have no money to spend. Let's make b808's holiday season kick @ss! Long live the Giveslutz!!!
P.S. If I end up getting more than I need, I will be glad to return it, or put it wherever the giveslutz community desires.

Edit: The more I look into shipping, I should definetly be able to ship for a good bit cheeper than stated above. (thank the Heavens!)

Secret Santa patricipants, I need help...
I'm finding myself stumped as to what to give to my secret santa recipient. I've read this person's past 200 posts and still have no clue what they could use...
Any ideas what I should be thinking about?
I might be the only one stumped but if numerous people are in the same boat, what do you guys think of secret santa participants all listing a few things that they are into to make it easier?

If it's domestic, Fexex or UPS will be a lot cheaper on large packages. If it's international, USPS (regular post office) is pretty much the only way to go and $80 is cheap.

I chipped in a bit. Funny thing, there was a banner on my paypal page that said "Send $300 abroad for free." I thought, hell, if I wanna give $300 to a broad, I'll just let the wife have it!

I too have been doing "research" on my SS recipient, I was lucky enough to come across some thing that has given me an idea (pictures are worth a thousand words), but I'm not opposed to everyone providing some info about themselves and their studio's because I really want to get that exact right thing.

I feel bad for the person that got me as I rarely post (less than 100 posts doesn't give much to go on).

With that said, I'll start things off with sharing some info about myself and my "studio".

I'm 6' tall, have short dark hair, long eye lashes and enjoy long walks in river valle.... Opps! Wrong site.

Seriously though. I love books. Mainly about music, audio and acoustics (Bob Katz, Phillip Newell, Floyd Toole), but also about Math and Physics or Philosophy and Comparative Mythology (Joseph Campbell). My project studio (in my basement) hasn't been much more than a work in progress for the last 3 years, between lack of cash and time to finish my mix room, I've been working out of what will eventually become my vocal/live room. Although I do have some amazing pieces of kit, so what little I do accomplish feels very good.

I run cubase 5 on a PC, use mainly my MPC and a delay pedal (planing on adding more), Pianoteq, BFD2, and Halion Symphonic Orchestra for my compositions. I never played an instrument as a kid, and got into all this audio stuff via DJing as a drunk & high teenager in the rave scene. However I just started Piano lessons a couple months ago (I'm 27), and next year I'll start guitar lessons!

Hopefully this gives something to go on. I won't ask for anything in particular and I certanly don't even expect something tangible, although if whoever has my name happens to be extremely weathly I do have the extra rack space for a Mytek 8X192.

Good idea.

I'm a poor hungry college student, so things that fit the bill there wouldn't be bad, but I think I'll be getting most of that orientation from my folks.

That being said, good books are always a good choice. I would love books on DIY equipment and the like.

I could always use more 1/4" cables as well.

Hmm, what else. Oh yeah, music's always good, just don't give me iTunes money or anything like that as I have way too much already.

I don't know what else to ask for, I'm pretty set. Got a decent little collection of mics, some pretty good monitors, I could use a new computer screen, but that's not a big deal. A mixer might be nice, but that's getting pricey and I wouldn't want anyone to break the bank.

Good luck to all. I have an idea what to get my recipient, but I wouldn't mind people giving more information on their stuff...

EDIT: A simple compressor (rack unit preferable) would be a great idea too.

Well, let me see if I can help my SS:

- I love books. Specially, books about making music, engineers, producers and/or musicians. (I just bought Daniel Levitin's book This is Your Brain on Music, if that helps. I don't have any of Bruce Swedien's books, nor any of the "Recording the Beatles" books).
- I like finding out about (and listening to) new music.
- I like dark chocolate better than milk chocolate.
- I like movies about music and musicians, studio documentaries (the making of...), concert films, etc. etc.
- I'm happy with my studio now, but outboard gear will be always welcome (BTW, we use Pro Tools LE here)
- My main instrument is the classical guitar, but hand percussion makes my heart jump with joy.
- My ranking of german cars is: BMW, Audi, VW

That's it. I hope this helps!!!!

Best,
++aldo

I've read that, but I have to say that I found Oliver Sacks Musicophilia more rewarding, though both are great reads.

Well, I'm glad to see my idea wasn't shunned because I was going to have a really hard time otherwise!
Me, I just love getting surprises so, whatever it is, I'll probably love it because it's a gift from someone. The only things I can't use are plugins (my Adobe Audition platform won't interface w/ any plugins) and anything with 'i' in the title (no itunes or ipod related stuff because I don't have them). I don't care if something is used or funky, the thought really counts for me.

Part of the fun about secret santa is trying to guess who the gift is from. However all somebody has to do is look at the return address. Even if there's not a name it would be easy to put 2 and 2 together from the place from which it came. Could just leave off a return address but that could be risky. I guess it's up to the sender. Any ideas? Incase anyone is wondering, I actually put names on pieces of paper and drew them out of my hat. I'll let everyone know not to guess me. If I was involved there would have been a odd number. Also it wouldn't be fair cause I would know who mine was. My giving is the organizing of this unprecedented internet event. And my getting is enjoying how excited everyone is over this! It has been a real pleasure doing this! I'm really looking forward to watching this unfold! Thanks to everyone here for kicking @ss!!!

There is an upside to digital piracy!

Good Morning All!

As it turns out, I've discovered an upside to digital piracy. Allow me to explain.

This morning when I went out to start my car, and sweep the snow off of it (it's -18C or -1F here). I notice that all the contents of my vehicle have been tossed about. My first worry is that they broke one of the windows, but a quick check and that fear is put to rest. I did however find that the driver side door is unlocked, which I may have left it that way, or they could have used a slimjim, both are entirely possible. So I start going through what's been tossed about only to discover that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE CDS I keep in the car is still there , and the one and only thing missing is the stash of pennies, nickles, and dimes (which would amount to about $3) that we kept in a container in the center console.

You know, I'm thinking what kind of special idiot breaks into a car and doesn't steal the CDs? I remember a time not too long ago that people would break into vehicles solely for the CDs. What's wrong with people? At least the bright side here is that I'm only out some change (I would have given the person more if they knocked on my door and asked).

What a great way to start the day!
