Even if no one nibbles at your offer, it doesn't matter at all. You've already given the gift.

Since this stuff isn't really studio/music related, I gave away on FreeCycle:

3 working computers

4 working monitors

2 working printers

2 sets of crystal cocktail glasses

1 weight bench

If anyone needs a 15" wheel (with tire!) for a '91 to '95 Caravan, let me know. It's leaning against my shed.

LMAO! This made me laugh uncontrollably! I'm still laughing at the image of someone gifting this. I wish I could take you on this offer and put it up againt my shed, if I had one. What a great conversation piece it would be.

I've got my first piece of gear to give away. Woohooo
I know it usually doesn't work this way but I cannot afford shipping on this item so please consider that.

JBL UREI Room Eq 5549a

its the top unit in the rack.
just send me a pm and we'll work out shipping. In the states probably wont be more than $25

Also have a good story to share:
I had the privilege to go to Guatemala a few months ago. I went because I heard an amazing story about an guy named Guillermo that is dramatically changing things down there. Here's a really quick version of his story:

Guillermo, was working for one of the many orphanages in guatemala. He left on a service mission and when he came back one of the orphanages offered him a position as director of the facility. They offered him 2000/month pay to take care of the children. After about 6 months of never receiving pay and never getting any money to feed and clothe the orphans he contacted the (american) owners through an interpreter. When he confronted them about the money/food/clothing issue they said your on a trial period and we'll pay you later and you'll figure out how to feed the kids, get donations if you have to. He told them that he had already been getting donations and had tapped every option he could and they just told him to figure it out.
Well, he was able to get on the internet to look for ways of getting food for the kids and read up on how other orphanages were able to handle the same issues. What he found was that most of the orphanages sell the kids (a.k.a child traffic-ing) so he did some research on the orphanage that he was working for and found a website that had a picture and a price listed for the kids he was watching over.
He confronted the owners (again through an interpreter) and they said it was none of his business and hung up. The next day, 3 hired thugs with guns came and threw all the children in a couple vans and took them away. So, Guillermo sold every possession he had which wasn't much (a guitar, some drafting equipment he used to make money, and a few other things) and made an effort to start an orphanage.
6 months and many miracles later he was able to get all but 1 of the kids back that were taken away and into an orphanage he owns and runs with an american friend of his named Doug. Unfortunately, the other orphanages are working against him to shut him down because he is one of the only orphanages not selling children.
I actually stayed in the orphanage while I was there to save on money. I was able to spend time with Guillermo, Doug and the kids. I heard this story from Guillermo and he cried as he told us about the condition of the kids when he got them back and the miracles that provided him the opportunity to open up this orphanage.
Guillermo spends everyday providing for the kids. If he's not at the orphanage he's out looking for donations. He lives with the kids. They call him papa Guillermo.
He has nursed numerous kids back to health that were predicted by doctors to die within weeks. He is 25 years old.

Believe it or not, that really is the short version. I saw and heard amazing things while staying at the orphanage. It would take up an entire page to tell the entire story of how he started the orphanage and each child's story on why they are there and what they had to go through.
We took over a dv camera and some audio equipment with us and are making a promotional video for Guillermo. I'm working on the video in final cut right now actually and he is flying in from guatemala to edit it with us and his friend doug will be doing the voice over and translation at my studio.
I've been watching this thread a lot lately because there are some items that would really help us get this job done. This thread is freakin awesome and makes me feel good when its so easy to see all the bad.

Singin: dont worry about a thing,

Rise up this mornin,
Smiled with the risin sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin, (this is my message to you-ou-ou

Singin: dont worry bout a thing,

In the spirit of this, I think we should send some good thoughts to Mr. Schmeckitup. A little birdie told me that he got a pretty bad boo-boo.

Hope everything is alright.

Yes, a pretty bad boo-boo indeed.

We just spoke on the phone, and he's OK.

He's counting his blessings, glad to be alive, and choosing to see the positive.

LOVE TO YOU, G. YOU'RE ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD.

You've been on my mind all day, and now I understand why.

Good healing to you, friend.

R.

Just to share in the spirit of this thread:

On the way back from AES, I was flying (Delta) and on the flight they announced raising donations for breast cancer research by selling $2 pink lemonades and donating it all. I ordered a $2 pink lemonade and felt pretty good, even though I'm not a fan of pink lemonade overall, I felt good about going a little above and beyond.

I started thinking about how they could maximize this, and knew I had $20 left in my pocket. I scribbled the following note:

"This is a match for the next 10 $2 donations, maybe announce this over your PA? Anonymous"

and quietly slipped it to a stewardess.

She came back and let me know on the second beverage round they would do something with it. So far they had raised about $30 to $40 from round 1.

About an hour later they announced that a he or she on the plane had a challenge to match the next 10 $2 donations for breast cancer, then proceeded down the aisles again. The stewards and stewardesses kept coming by and smiling at me, and in the end they announced it raised an extra $200 ($85 from a few folks in first class alone!).

Felt good, was glad to lend my marketing sense to the cause and a few bucks to kick start it...!

Nice work Warren. Bloody nice

I think this serves as a reminder to always be aware of opportunities like this.

I'm sure it made you feel good Warren, and it's going to a worthwhile cause.

Yes, my mother died supporting cancer research also (not of cancer). Long story short, she and a group of quilters on Cape Cod stayed after dark on an icy night to make bunnies to sell for Relay for Life. On her ride home, March 8, 2005, she was hit by a truck that slid through a stop sign driving recklessly. She was killed instantly.

This one really hit home, I guess I had a unique way of not just giving that $20 on that flight, but using it for a greater good to touch and inspire others. At first there was that tiny little thought "nah, it won't work" but I quickly worked past that and dug my notebook out of my bag.

War, thank you so much for sharing as you have.

Here's to you.

Both of those stories are so relevant to the spirit of what's happening on this thread. Obviously.

Every time I think this thing can't blow me away any more than it has, it just....somehow......DOES!

Yay.

good on ya man, Marketing seems to have a larger impact when people know your marketing for the good of something outside yourself.
