Got the stove hooked up, but something needs adjusting. Big fire on burners! Didn't have this last time I did a nat. gas to LPG conversion.

Seeing the chiro in the morning. Gotta get this wing fixed.

In other news, I got a CD in the mail yesterday. It was sent from CDBaby by some unknown benefactor. Wherever You Go by Hector Qirko. Some real nasty bluegrass--the kind that makes you want to get the dogs and go 'coon huntin'. The real thing! Thank you, Mr. Calabash, wherever you are!

So, it could be a little ditty with lyrics, a poem, a photo, a drawing, a story, a favourite quotation, any bloody thing really! Preferably your own work. About a couple, or siblings, or twins even, or a pair of friends, or partners in crime, musical or otherwise, or shoes, or cats - whatever! But '2' is the thing.

Now, go giveslutz go! Post entries here on the thread. Winner will be announced Friday week, unless I change my mind and extend the deadline
Well hey hey! Here's my entry! I decided to conjure up a little jingle for the contest. I tie it into the theme of the contest by offering up a pair of preamps that I will give away regardless of whether or not I win! I also added an EV635a into the mix. For the record, I know that makes three things, but the part about the 635a is sort of a P.S. on the song, so I don't count it.

Pictures incoming! I really want a pair of SDC's; it'd be immensely useful for recording my a cappella group.

Good luck to everyone else!

Glad you guys picked up on that harp.

Don't pull them out that often anymore........it was really an afterthought. Those high notes just felt so good. Something about a wind instrument......

Thanks so much.

Anyway, I am going to end up picking one up. It's a PBASS FrankenFender...Looks like they put a Fender neck on a PBASS clone of some kind...but it is mint green or surf green so I am going to have to have it. It's at the pawn shop where I take most of my stuff when I am in need of a little extra cash....Social Security doesn't go that far. (sorry it was a tangent)

I also picked up another PBASS clone. This one is made by Torque. (it was a freebie) I am going to repaint this one. I am going to go with the Matt Black finish and a Satin clear coat. Then I found this metal pick guard on ebay that has been rubbed to a light polish. I am going to take it to a metals shop and see if they can stripe it....I'll put vertical stripes about every 3/8" I think they are called tuxedo stripes. It should look real good...I hope...of course this is once I get back to work. Which keeps getting put off due to health reasons...but I will make it even if it kills me first.

I figure it won't hurt to ask one more time. To any bass player that knows what electronics to use. I would like to make these sound a little better. Do I go with Dimarzio pickups or humbuckers or what...and how do I tell what they will sound like? Anyone know of any sites that can give me more info? Anyone want to call me and tell me where to look...or where to get off even for that matter.
Hi, my name is Edwin and I am a bass player. etc. etc.

You might check out basstasters.com || welcome for some ideas.

If it were me, I'd have to determine the tone I was going for:
More or less old school: I'd go for a Seymour Duncan 1/4lb'er for more aggressive sound, maybe a Fralin for something a little lighter and traditional. I love the Duncans on my Lakland J-bass. I also loved the Barts I had in there as well.
Modern option 1: Bartolini. Deep warm and clear sounding. Probably not as complex in the mids as the old school options, but I've always liked their pickups.
Modern option 2: EMG. These are pickups that people love to hate because they sound "sterile." What that often means is that they are consistent and work well with outboard gear. They are active and are very quiet, so for recording, that can be a plus. It's also a plus if you use a lot of effects.
Off the wall option: Dark Star by Fred Hammon. These are more full range, more dynamic and much better sounding to my ear than traditional P pickups. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a P player, so I don't have that much experience, but every bass I've had that has had Dark Star pickups has sounded great, IF the bass itself sounds good. Out of all the traditional pickup designs (which pretty much comes down to P, J and the Hagstrom Bi-Sonic from which these are derived), these reflect the actual character of the bass the most. On the other end of the spectrum is probably the EMG. If I had a P-bass, this is what I would put on it. The only problem is that they seem to be made of unobtanium right now.

Feel free to pester me off forum. I don't get much of a chance to visit here these days.

I've made a few 'Frankenstein' guitars. So far, my favorite was a Jackson neck on an ESP body. That or the ESP.C. Rich I had. Ahh, good times...

Hope that helps.
The P-bass pickup design (at least the split version, the very first one was different) is a humbucking design from the get go. That's why it's in two pieces and doesn't suffer from the noise that jazz basses do when using only one pickup. It's also why when you add a jazz pickup to a P bass, it is usually overpowered by the two coils that are in series on the P pickup. The two coils are just not next to each other in the traditional humbucking way and each one only services two strings.

Leo was a clever guy.

The 57 did arrive! What do you think I recorded the background on? Thanks a bunch! Although, I feel like you could beat me by doing nothing more than saying the number "2" over and over again on a recording! Still, fingers crossed!

Anyway, my friend decided to enter the realm of songwriting, and I decided to fly out of my comfort zone by entering the realm of instrumental arrangement. He wrote this for a friend he knew, who had just recently died. It's really a gorgeous song that just blossoms the more you listen. I'm very proud of what I've done with it, and unbelievably grateful that I got the opportunity to produce this.

Kierkes you have some real talent there. Nice tune.

Edwin, thanks for all the info. I will more than likely be in touch here a little later. I am just getting ready to go back to work.

I also got in the mail today, Young Heart, by Susan Marie Reeves. I'll be listening to that a little later...if I can stop staring at the cover, and the back....
Thank you so much for sending me a copy of your CD.

I think I am getting hungry so time to get myself a pb&j sandwich.

Kat your shirt doesn't look like it's canvas...so all must be well with your hair..which looks great in the photo btw....it's a great pic.

OK I have to tell you all a little story that I was told the other day. My best friend lives just down the street from me. We have been friends for nearly 20 years. He lived near me once and then moved. Five years ago, he moved back into the neighborhood and we have become like brothers from another mother.

The first time he lived here, he was an OTR (over the road) driver and was often not home. I happened to see his son walking down the street with his bicycle sporting a flat tire. I told him to bring the bike over and I would fix it for him. This happened a couple of more times and as the years went by I had forgotten all about it.

His son remembered and he tells me often how I use to help the kids fix their bikes. Last year he helped me with a project hanging sheet rock and helping me redo another friends basement. We became pretty close...I got the opportunity to see what it might be like to have a son of my own. He calls me Uncle Greg.

His son is now 26 and following in his dads footsteps doing over the road driving for a moving company. A week ago, he and his girlfriend (she travels with him and the two of them alone move entire contents of houses...the kid is an animal)

A week ago they were in Reno, NV. They stopped at a Burger King to eat. While they were eating they happen to notice this guy coming out of the bathroom. He was obviously homeless and was carrying all of his possessions in a big bag. The man went over and sat in a booth...just trying to stay warm.

My friends son and his girlfriend ate their meal. Then without saying anything to anyone...my friends son goes up to the counter and orders their biggest hamburger, super sized everything...a meal fit for a king. He took all the food over to the homeless guy, set down the tray..said Merry Christmas...turned and walked away.

My friend was told the story by his son's girlfriend and when he heard it he couldn't help but be all choked up. He got misty eyed when he told me the story.

When I heard it, I have to admit...I too was choked up...he's quite a kid.

The spirit is out there....and it's growing...

Happy Holidays.

Well, if the opportunity presents itself, I am doing the same. Too bad I don't set foot in too many fast food restaurants. That's very touching!
