Congrats! I was actually more into telling the stories than getting the FX. I hadn't thought about that day in a long time. Somewhere there are pictures of us wandering the estate, with groves of walnuts, oranges, lemons, streams crossing each other over bridges with watercress growing in them, all surrounded by the ruins of a medieval town. Here's a site describing it:Gardens of Ninfa | Italy Heaven

Congrats KEYBEEETSSS

Edwin,

That's beautiful! I'm a great believer that food is one of the "anchors" of our memory and experience, so I really appreciate you taking the time to tell a tale.

As for me, I've been party to a host of wonderful meals in my day, but one of the standouts was dinner at the Red Iguana in Salt Lake City.
Welcome to the Red Iguana

Don't miss it, if you happen to be out that way. I had chiken in a Green Mole made with pumpkin seeds. It was neigh to transendental. I like to think myself a cook, but I've spent eight years trying to replicate some of those flavors, and while many of the results have been good, the original was on another plane altogether.

MMMMmmmmmmm...

Steinberg MIDEX8

Greetings,
Well, I gave away an Evolution MIDI controller a few weeks ago and had such fun doing so I thought I would dig up another piece of gear to give away. My setup is already pretty humble so there is not much to give, however I did come up with something.

The gear is a Steinberg MIDEX8 MIDI Interface. Steinberg discontinued them about 2 years ago but the dang thing works like a charm. It features MIDI timing for what Steinberg calls LTB protocol and it works like a charm up through Cubase 3.x. I'm not sure if Cubase 4 has LTB or not. Outside of Cubase you don't get the benefit of LTB, but it is still a very nice 8 in 8 out MIDI interface. I would still be using it but I've gone totally in the box and thus have no need for it.

Here are some details about the unit if you are interested:
THE MIDEX TOUCH

Anyone interested should post a quote by a famous composer from the 17 or 1800s that is either funny or disses on another composer. As an example, I think it was Richard Strauss who said `Never look at the trombones. It only encourages them.'

Rossini on Wagner

"Wagner has lovely moments but awful quarters of an hour."

However, I like what Mark Twain said even more...

"I have been told that Wagner's music is better than it sounds."

This whole "01" thing sounds rather digital to me.
Congratulations on your 01nessness!

NO really I don't think it could have happened to a nicer guy. Then again a nicer guy might not have accepted the award. So there you have it.

In all seriousness, that is cool and a little weird all at the same time. Congrats.
PEACE

Never heard the Rossini quote before - that is classic!

quoted from Richard Strauss:

"don't look at the trombones, you'll only encourage them..."

LOL! Poor Wagner. He was so abused. This is the reason I thought I would ask for quotes. The `greats' were such biatches and said such snarky things about each other, it is hilarious! I need to start collecting quotes!

Plughead:
I love that quote! That is why I included it as an example in my original post. Do you have any other great quotes?

For the record, I'll decide on a winner on Friday, but I won't ship until right after Christmas. Reason being, I've done all my shopping and shipping presents to relatives so that I can avoid huge lines. thumbsup

One last thing, I really am taken up with this thread. Watching so much good will is really a bright spot in my day!

My wife thinks I'm crazy because I determine where I'd like to go on vacation based on local cuisine... Boston, New Orleans, Jamaica, Sicily... one day I'll get to one of those places

Here's a fe more quotes for the sake of more quotes:

"To use a woman or a guitar, one must first know how to tune them." Spanish Proverb

"Ah Music! What a beautiful art! But what a wretched profession" Georges Bizet. (I think we can all feel this one.)

"Competition is for horses, not artists." Bartok

Damn - didn't even catch that - just can't keep up with the thread count...

Benjamin Britten:
"It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony"

Aldous Huxley:
"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music"

and at this time, a very salient quote from John Lennon:
"Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it"

And probably THE most important quote of this generation, by Bob Marley:
"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain"
