Toft Atb - Question about inserts.

Guys, I am using an Atb.. I am having trouble inserting 2 units into the board..

I have an SPL Transient designer 4 channel and an Api 5500 Dual eq.
Both are xlr in/out..

I dont want to use them on the buss's.. They work just fine there. I want to use them on the individual channels.

Just a heads up, I use the line in's on the Toft for playback.

So the path is.....

Instrument - outboard pre's- Recorder input- recorder output- Toft Line in's

What is the best way to get those hooked up?

I tried using the inserts on each channel with a female/male xlr on one end with a unbalanced 1/4 inch on the other end.

Whats the best cable setup to use in this situation.?

And what is the conclusion of that patch?

If you are just mixing, I would patch the gear after the DA converter and before the channel input. If you are trying to use the preamps and direct outputs with outboard patched, you can use the insert point, or simply patch out of the Direct out's, into the gear and then to the recorder. The track coming from tape will then feed the monitor path.

The short answer is in the manual. The inserts use 1/4" stereo jacks wired sleeve -earth, tip - send, ring - return. You could wire an xlr Y cable to trs to use the inserts. You can't use unbalanced cable for the insert connection.

Otherwise, you can feed the D/A to the device and either into the line or monitor in, depending on what you want. But again, these are wired for balanced trs connections.
