Buy any Jose Ramirez

Even the $1000 would be excellent. I think it's an R4 or R2, whichever is less.

Check out Kenny Hill guitars: Hill Guitar Company

Even his budget ones (Estudio) area very nice. I have one of the Palo Escrito models, and it's very responsive and warm sounding.

Darren Hippner.

Small luthier out of the pacific NW with a fantastic reputation for quality and value.

I have two of his classicals (he builds about 90% classical with a few steel string acoustics too) and am in love. He's great to deal with, the axes are awesome, and you can find great deals on used ones on ebay. His wait time for a new one is about 1/2 a year I think...

Mine were both a little under 2K used.

Sadowsky electric nylon

At the upper end of your budget but occasionally Roger sells pre-owned nylon string guitars on his website. I love mine. Just plug in, play, record for stellar tones. You can record right in front of cranked monitors and never ever feedback.

scroll down to Daryl Stuermer for sound clips; Lee Ritenour and Earl Klugh use it quite a bit too
